This book follows Nate Wright in 6th grade. His friend Francis is bombarding him with trivia and an accident at a baseball game sends him to the emergency room. The only thing between him and summer school is a study session with his arch enemy. Nate needs a hug. He meets a mystery girl at the fair and then she disappears so he has to try to find her. This book is humorous and entertaining and would be a fun read for 3rd-5th graders. It might be good for a talk about feelings and friendship, a book report, or just to have in the classroom library for independent reading time.
Big Nate: Hug It Out is yet another offering from Lincoln Peirce. If you are already familiar with Big Nate then you will enjoy this volume.
This is one of those strips that are primarily targeted at late elementary/middle school age but has enough humor beyond that level to entertain adults as well. Most of us can remember 6th grade and while the exact environment has changed the basic human elements are the same. That allows readers of all ages to enjoy Big Nate.
