I stopped reading this about sixty pages in. It is a very detailed account, and perfect for someone who is making a study of the Whitmans, their early life, what led them to becoming missionaries and their experiences until their deaths. I had already read a biography of Narcissa Whitman and this seemed like much the same story, although the focus was on Marcus. Another reason I had to quit reading is that my eyes are giving me trouble and the print is very small. There are many photos included and I recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the history of missions in the U.S.A. and or the settling of Oregon.
