1967 The Resistance Versus Vichy: The Purge of Collaborators in Liberated France, by Peter Novick (read 20 Dec 1985) This is a 1968 book by a University of Chicago professor. It covers some of the same ground as France Reborn, by Robert Aron, but is a better book. I wanted to know more about the post-1944 purge of the French hierarchy, but this book told little. It says Cardinal Baudrillart (who died in 1942) was an "arch-collaborationist" and Cardinal Suhard was "an ardent supporter of Petain" and the papal nuncio, Valeri, was "discredited." It says only seven bishops were removed, though the Government sought removal of 30 or 35. This was not a bad book, but I wasn't too interested in some of what it said..
