While a cute series and concept, these books are riddled with child neglect and endangerment… often times the parents are absent and allow the children to travel with strangers or spend the night in questionable places. Fun to read but not the best example of parenting…
This is a super cute mystery series...it's perfect for beginner sleuths! It's sort of a modern day Nancy Drew meets Goosebumps...... but, unlike Goosebumps, the possible monsters never turn out to be real.... the jr detectives always figure out the logical truth...like the Scooby Doo gang.... so, it's a good option for children who find real monsters too scary.

There are some highly unrealistic elements, and inaccurate info in some of them.... so, I'd recommend parents read through first and make sure there's nothing thats important enough to them personally to correct. There's also some odd carelessness from the adults in the series....ie; allowing the children to go off with strangers, etc......so, parents may want to reiterate show more stranger danger.

This is the first in the super edition series...these books are a bit longer than the books in the original series. There is an interactive mystery for readers in this one.....there are letters hidden in the 26 included illustrations, and each contains a hidden letter.....put together, they reveal a message. Some of the letters were surprisingly challenging to find. I really enjoyed this one!

Overall, the series is cute, entertaining, and should keep kiddos interested.

Detective Camp is another great addition to the A to Z Mysteries series by Ron Roy.

I found that this book didn't live up to the previous ones I'd read, but I can easily see middle graders loving it. The mystery is set at camp this time and there's lots of drama and goofy camp stories/songs to go around.

I didn't like the mystery as much. Normally I find there's many ways the story can go and it leaves you guessing, but this one fell a little flat for me. It seemed obvious what was going on from the get go. Either way, it's still a fun ride and middle graders will love it.

Two out of five stars.
I enjoyed reading this book. I think this is a fun series for kids to read, and I also enjoyed all of the illustrations and the hidden message within the illustrations throughout the book. I do however wish that there was more action and excitement within the overall plot.
When Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose sing up for detective camp they expect to learn more about their favorite thing to do. Instead, they are caught up in the mystery of missing earrings -- and all the campers and counselors are the suspects! Can these three solve the crime before detective camp is shut down for good?

There were some great clues for early readers to follow, but the mystery was hidden well enough that it wasn't too easy to solve. I also liked how it was a bit meatier than the other A to Z mysteries.
Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose go to detective camp where they find a real life mystery and take the steps to solve it.

I liked these kids. They use their brains. There are red herrings to throw us off but the kids are never thrown off. They get their person. I never did figure out the puzzle. I would read more of this series.
I haven't read a mystery in a while and it was fun. I really liked the letters hidden in the illustrations to reveal a secret message. There were a couple multicultural characters but they did not play key roles but I think they could have. It was a fun read.

This book and its series could be used in a library program about mysteries. A map with clues could be hidden in the library, just as it is in the book, with each participant be given a clue and bring the pieces of the map together.
