A Deadly Inside Scoop was a laugh out loud, delightful beginning to this new cozy mystery series! I am so glad that I requested this book from NetGalley. I cannot remember where I first heard about this one but I'm so thankful that I had it on my radar! Let me tell you all of the things that made this book standout for me. One, the author is obviously a mystery lover and threw in references to author mystery authors/books here and there that I couldn't help but appreciate. Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express is just one example. I loved the nod that she gave in this book to that classic - it just warmed my book loving heart! I also adored ALL of the characters in this book! Win has a large family that is also her support show more system. She also has two best friends that were absolutely hilarious. I was reading this one in bed just giggling to myself while my husband gave me strange looks. But I just couldn't help myself - it was too funny! The banter back and forth between the three friends as well as the situations that they found themselves in at times were just too great! I know this is going to sound wrong to many of you - but I'm not a huge ice cream person usually. I enjoy it to be clear but it just isn't my go to treat or snack. I will say that the different flavors that Win was making though helped to give me some serious cravings for ice cream while I was reading. The mystery was solid and kept me guessing. This was just such a great beginning to this cozy mystery series overall that I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book!

All in all, this book was a refreshing and enjoyable beginning to this new cozy mystery series! I was super excited to have found out that this author has two other cozy series under a pseudonym that I can check out while I'm waiting for book two to release. If you enjoy cozy mysteries with great characters, laugh out loud moments, and just a plain fun read; then check this book out! I can easily recommend it especially to all of my other cozy mystery or suspense readers!

Bottom Line: I'm so excited to have found both this series and this author as this book was an absolute delight!

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to the publisher and NetGalley. Honest thoughts are my own.

The first book in the Ice Cream Parlor Mysteries, [b:A Deadly Inside Scoop|52670680|A Deadly Inside Scoop (An Ice Cream Parlor Mystery #1)|Abby Collette|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574452632l/52670680._SX50_SY75_.jpg|73100382] is a delightful read that does not disappoint.

Bronwyn "Win" Crewse has just taken over and renovated her family's ice cream shop, Crewse Creamery, which was originally run by her grandmother. When she reopens the shop on a cold and snowy day, no one shows up. But that evening, she trips over a dead body in the snow and her father soon becomes a suspect. She and her friend, Maisie, team up to solve the mystery and clear his name.

I really loved this book. [a:Abby show more Collette|19503998|Abby Collette|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1580231609p2/19503998.jpg] has masterfully created an intriguing and incredibly well-written mystery. Her writing is so descriptive that each and every ice cream concoction Win made seemed delicious and I could picture and almost taste them whilst I read. (Bonus! Some recipes mentioned in the story are at the back of the book, which you don't want to miss.) Win's relationships with her supportive friends and family were just lovely. The way Maisie and her mom often helped out in the Creamery and her grandfather, PopPop, watched over her, really made this book all the more warm and cozy. The slight romance didn't distract from the main plotline, which I really appreciated.

While she certainly isn't an experienced sleuth, Win makes thoughtful and (mostly) careful decisions, which made her all the more loveable. Maisie was quirky and fun, perfectly balancing out Win's "methodical and analytical" nature. Some scenes had me laughing out loud! Particularly when Riya was chasing Noah through the parking lot. While the ending was slightly abrupt and felt a little too "convenient," ( with Althea confronting her with a knife immediately after they realized who the culprit was ), this book was beautifully crafted and truly fantastic. I look forward to continuing the series with [b:A Game of Cones|54075259|A Game of Cones (An Ice Cream Parlor Mystery #2)|Abby Collette|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1592244160l/54075259._SY75_.jpg|84433635]!

I first heard about this book on Jungle Red Writers (and they rarely steer me wrong), so I picked up a copy and was hooked. Bronwyn Crewse has inherited the family ice cream parlor from her grandfather, and is finally ready for the grand re-opening. If the snow wasn't a bad omen, finding a dead body definitely had to be!

Just like the ice cream recipes mentioned in the book, A Deadly Inside Scoop perfectly mixes sweetness and sassy for what I hope becomes an ongoing cozy series.
Bronwyn "Win" Crewse begins managing her family's ice cream parlor after a cousin's changes to its mission nearly causes its demise. Win wants it to do one thing well--ice cream--and avoid all the other things which did not separate it from other Chagrin Falls businesses. While playing in the snow, she falls over a dead body. When she realizes the detective suspects her own father of the dastardly deed, she and a friend investigate. The novel's pluses include an African-American sleuth, the ice cream parlor that tries to stick to locally sourced ingredients, and the character of Pop-Pop. The novel's minuses include marginalization and depiction of the police as incompetent, a sleuth who spends too little time in her new business, and show more the sheer stupidity of the sleuth and her friends when it comes to investigation. While I might pick up the second installment to see if it improves, I'm not in a rush to pick it up. I hope she spends more time in the ice cream parlor and less time exhibiting her stupidity in the next installment. I received an advance electronic copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. show less

Bronwyn has left her job in the big city and returned home to revamp and run her family’s ice cream store. She delights in making ice cream and developing new flavors. Her plans of a grand opening are delayed, and she ends up opening on the same day as the town is hit with a major snowstorm. With no customers, she decides to resurrection her grandmother’s recipe for snow ice cream. Plans go awry when she finds a dead body in the deep snow. And things become even worse when her father becomes the main suspect in the murder. This tale is a good first novel in the series. The characters are likable and the setting is quaint. The mystery was good enough to keep me reading, and though the dialogue could have been better, the overall show more package was entertaining. show less
A Deadly Inside Scoop by Abby Collette has Bronwyn “Win” Crewse taking over the management of her family’s ice cream shop, Crewse Creamery in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Win had the shop renovated and plans to only sell only homemade ice cream as her grandparents did when they started the business. She is thankful to have her grandmother’s original recipes plus Win plans on creating some new flavors using locally sourced ingredients. Of course, numerous delays means Win is opening the creamery in October instead of May as she originally planned. After a dismal first day, Win ventures down to the falls to obtain fresh snow to make snow cream. Win ends up stumbling over a dead body who happens to be a con man who has a history with the show more Crewse family. When Win’s father becomes a prime suspect, Win and Maisie, one of her best friend’s, begin their own investigation. Can this duo scoop up the killer before Win’s father must trade in his doctor’s coat for prison garb?

A Deadly Inside Scoop by Abby Collette is the debut novel in An Ice Cream Parlor Mystery series. Bronwyn “Win” Crewse has returned home to Chagrin Falls and was thrilled when her grandfather gave her the keys to Crewse Creamery making her the new manager. Win’s Aunt Jack had changed the place so much that is was not recognizable. Win has made some wonderful ice cream (all made by hand) to sell for the opening which turns out to be a chilly day with rapidly falling snow. Not the best day to open an ice cream shop. Win has a positive attitude and plenty of marketing ideas to help Crewse Creamery. I enjoy the relationship Win has with her family especially her grandfather, PopPop. PopPop may be grumpy, but he has a soft heart where his granddaughter is concerned. While Maisie Solomon is a loyal friend to Win (they have been friends since kindergarten), she had hair brained ideas and reacts without thinking (insisting someone is guilty of murder without proof). I hope that Maisie will calm down and mature as the series progresses. The mystery was straightforward. You know who will die after meeting the man. There are a couple of suspects along with misdirection. I would have liked more investigating by Win (without Maisie). I enjoyed discovering the identity of the cold killer. The ice cream Win creates sounds delicious. I like that she uses quality, locally sourced ingredients. I was surprised that Win did not serve other items in the winter like homemade hot chocolate, cookies fresh from the oven (could be used to be ice cream sandwiches too), brownies served a la mode, or pie with ice cream. It would help to bring customers into the shop (she might in future books). Win’s marketing degree will serve her well in promoting the shop. Professor Morrison Kaye is a good addition. I liked him except for the ideas he gave Maisie. The knowledge he imparted could be dangerous in Maisie’s hands. A Deadly Inside Scoop is an upbeat cozy mystery with creamy cold concoctions, greenhorn gumshoes, significant snowfall, a mystery man, a precious puppy, and carcinogenic killer.

A cute cozy mystery which begins a new series.
Bronwyn/Win has returned to her hometown and the Crewse ice cream shop. She finds her grandmother's recipes and plans to revitalize the shop using them. Now, it is winter, and the shop is finally open after construction delays. While trying to encourage people to come to the shop, Win finds a body in the snow. She witnesses a small boy and his mother leaving the scene. When she finds out the dead man's connection to her family, and her father is named a suspect, she knows she has to find a way to clear his name.
This is a cute story and it will be fun to follow Win and her sleuthing in the next books.
