This is a gentle and brief look at a time of transition for the main character and her family. Readers will relate to PK's mixed feelings of sadness, uncertainty, and pride as she faces changes and experiences "growing up." I know this is for middle readers, but the story ended too soon for me. I would have liked at least another chapter to see the girls start the new school year.
This story could be a great one to read to those close to PK's age (9) and then have them write about their own family dynamics and responsibilities.
