Description

No! Not my sister..." Detective Josie Quinn hasn't heard from her sister since Trinity stormed out of the house in the heat of an argument three weeks ago. So, when human remains are found at the remote hunting cabin where Trinity was last seen, Josie can only assume the worst. Gathering her team, Josie feels a surge of relief when the dental records match a different body - that of a missing single mother from a neighboring town. But now Josie's is not the only broken family desperate for show more answers. Dusting the crime scene for prints, a name smudged into the side of a nearby car is the first in a trail of clues Trinity left for Josie. In need of a big story to save her journalism career, it seems Josie's sister was attempting to make contact with a dangerous serial killer known for creating sculptures with his victim's bones. And Trinity won't stop until she's found him, even if it means becoming his next masterpiece. Josie is certain there's a critical clue in the ivory hair comb delivered to Trinity just days before she went missing. But as more bones surface, each set more likely to be Trinity's than the last, time is running out to find her alive. show less

I am a new fan. Lisa Regan can write mystery; she can project fear, she can keep you engaged, she can move a story along, she writes solid believable dialog, excellent description which drops you into the place and she explores human psyche. What is there not to like about all this. OK, one caveat, at certain points in the story I had difficulty accepting that the protagonist was in charge. On reflection I think that was a hidden strength that made her more believable. I would have liked a little more of the backstory of Detective Josie Quinn, but I will just have to catch up.

This new fan is definitely reading the other books in the series and looking forward to the next installment. Thank you NetGalley and Bookoutre for a copy.
I have only recently discovered Lisa Regan and really enjoy her writing. This is the seventh in the Detective Josie Quinn series, the second I have read. Although this plot was a bit of a stretch, it moved along quickly and kept me totally engrossed. Josie is an intelligent, strong female protagonist. If you enjoy mysteries/ police procedurals, this is a must read.
Find Her Alive by Lisa Regan
Detective Josie Quinn #8

A fight between twins
One disappears
Bone art clue left behind
Other twin on the case
Will she find her in time…
Or...not

Dark, twisted tale that moved between the serial killer’s life and the present day search for Trinity with bits of both Trinity’s and Josie’s past shared in the process – I could not put it down!

What I liked:
* The tale grabbed me in the beginning and did not let me go till the very end
* The relationships and how strong they were between family members
* The police team and how they worked together
* The intensity of the story
* I felt I was part of the story and was truly invested in the characters and the outcome
* That though I could not condone the killing I show more could understand how it may have come about
* The mystery and how it was solved
* Josie & Noah and Trinity & Drake – want to hear more about them in future books
* All of it except…

What I didn’t like:
* That some parents can be so callous, mean and evil
* Being reminded of the evil that remains in the world
* Having to say goodbye to the characters – I really want to know what happens next!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC – This is my honest review

I had just read a somewhat mediocre book when I found out Lisa Regan (whom I always want to spell Reagan because whenever I read one of her books, I’m reminded of the late cowboy/ultra-conservative/Star Wars president) had published another of her Josie-Quinn thrillers.

Regan’s books rarely feature something new and exciting but on the other hand, they rarely disappoint because Josie, a small-town detective, and her team are interesting to read about - and quite often the story unfolds at breakneck speed.

This instalment in the series is no exception to either of those two sides of the coin:

“Josie stood in place, her feet concrete blocks. “We believe that Trinity was abducted by a serial killer.””

What a way to break such show more news to the family…

Josie’s long-lost twin sister, roving reporter Trinity, now fallen from her network’s graces, is abducted - and by a serial killer to boot.

“Josie’s heart ached for her twin. “That’s terrible.””

This is either a recipe for a literary disaster or something good. Fortunately, while this book is not a highlight of the series, it’s quite enjoyable while still being nothing special.

While the story is interesting and engaging, I saw every plot “twist” coming from miles away - up to the very last sentence in the book. Sometimes, going back to the well-known, successful formulas can actually be pleasant. This is such a case for me.

There are a few instances in which Josie and her team make some truly stupid mistakes for which I wanted to shout at them but, ultimately, this Josie Quinn thriller won’t disappoint (if you liked her this far!) and I’m going to stick with her for the time being.

Josie Quinn and her sister, Trinity have a fight and Trinity leaves. She rents a cabin in the woods. After sometime, Josie works up the nerve to go and talk to her, but Trinity is no where to be found. The door to the cabin is unlocked, Trinity's car is in the drive with her phone in the console and the keys in the ignition. Josie finds behind the cabin human remains on display. Josie and her team, with the help of the FBI rush to find Trinity before time runs out. Trinity has left clues for Josie to follow, and we get a little more background on how Trinity grew up and what made her what she is.
Josie Quinn is one of my favorite series. She is tough because of her childhood, but she is also very sweet. Josie's team stands behind her no show more matter what. All of the characters are likeable. This was a very quick read, as this whole series is. I would definitely recommend. show less
In this mystery fan’s opinion, this was lackluster. Others rave. Read my full review here.
