Autobiographical?
Interesting reason why Melinda doesn't argue more with her father, but agrees to let him buy a horse for her. I think, deep inside, she had reasons of her own... and if this were a group read the students could discuss them. Meanwhile, more of the details that make it a relatively long book are about horsemanship than actual horses. The setting is interesting, too, back in the day when Carmel, Monterey Bay, Pacheco Pass were all ranching country and relatively affordable. I picked it up because I do like the Newbery Honor book [b:Blue Willow|774396|Blue Willow|Doris Gates|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348991738l/774396._SY75_.jpg|1285813], and the others that I've found by her. show more This was fine, but a little different... the ending most different of all and very discussable.
So, yes, I def. rec. it for group/ class read for MG in California, and anyone who can't get enough horse stories. It's on Open Library. https://openlibrary.org/search?q=a morgan for melinda&mode=ebooks&has_fulltext=true show less
