Description

Tom Sharpe's indefatigable hero is pitted against the vices of an aristocratic pervert, the merciless greed of a politician's wife and the seedy underbelly of Britain's medical facilities, deftly exposing the farcical realities of small-town England and America.

The quads take over "Wilt in Nowhere" and the book is better for it. Watching four foul-mouthed children wreak havoc on American religious conservatism is exactly the kind of anarchic cultural collision Tom Sharpe deploys so effectively. Wilt himself feels sidelined at times, so readers expecting him to carry the novel may be mildly disappointed. But if you embrace the quads as the real stars, it becomes a sharp and entertaining British satirical farce.

The guy died recently and I got my hands on the last Wilt book while on holidays.

It's my first Tom Sharpe novel and I had great fun with the less salubrious side of the English language lol.

The plot seems to be slightly unsatisfactory in that it come to no real conclusion, but that does not matter because, the path to get there it's more important than the point of arrival.

I found myself laughing out loud with absurdity of the situations, although one also feels that, under certain circumstances, these things might happen for real.

It' a treat to follow how the innocent actions will lead to chaotic results, and that is where the fun lies.

This's hardly great literature, but the non-stop nonsense is very enjoyable.

Fun as usual but not the best. Fizzled out when I was expecting a tour de force finish.
Brilliantly written and bitingly funny, Tom Sharpe's indefatigable hero is pitted against the vices of an aristocratic pervert, the merciless greed of a politician's wife and the seedy underbelly of Britain's medical facilities, deftly exposing the farcical realities of small-town England and America.

The return of the usual cast, including a by now clued-up Inspector Flint who is happy to let all the other forces of law and order (including American spooks) chase Henry through a complex set of blind alleys. Henry is walking through a remote part of England whilst Eva and the quads cause chaos across the Atlantic. Both, of course, manage to involve themselves in sex scandals and violence, whilst innocently blundering through a series of unlikely co-incidences.

It made me laugh out load on a few occasions, and not many books do that these days.
A good read - an actual funny writer - a rare specimen. The guy has quadruple 14 year old daughters - what's not to like..
