The police and a gang both have moles from each other, and both know it.
Exciting, funny (for a crime thriller), and with a surprisingly cool bad guy from Jack Nicholson. If I didn't know, I never would have guessed from watching it that this was a Scorsese film. Not that I don't like Scorsese (I love some of his movies, dislike others), just that this is totally unlike him.

A very violent movie, but well put together.
An undercover cop and a mole in the police attempt to identify each other while infiltrating an Irish gang in South Boston. (IMDb)
Back to the streets and with a stellar cast, Martin Scorsese proves once again that he's the master of urban storytelling -- and of thrillingly violent filmmaking.
This reworking of an excellent and popular Hong Kong picture pulses with energy, tangy dialogue and crackling performances from a fine cast. The movie works smashingly, even if you have seen its Hong Kong counterpart and have a clue of what's coming. For all its snap, crackle, and pop, it's emotionally galvanic .
