Did not like this one at all. It felt very hastily put together, especially the ending with the miracle saves. And there were certain things that were left so undone that I would have expected another book right away. It seemed as if the author was trying to throw everything in to tie up those endings left in her other series, but it just felt forced. Then they added new conundrums that were not adequately explained.

Spoiler below:

Leigh Bardugo, if you hate Genya so much, you should have given her a series of her own. Only main characters should suffer as much as you've made her suffer. ( )

banale, struttura dei capitoli esasperante

Definitely a stronger book than King of Scars, with lots of adventuring and derring do, even if some of the narrative obstacles either get overcome a bit too easily or (as in the case of the Darkling), Leigh Bardugo doesn't seem to know quite what to do with them once she's got them on the page. It was enjoyable, but I feel moreso on a scene-by-scene basis rather than if I step back and consider the book as a whole. Bardugo was trying to wrap up several books worth of plot here, and things are a bit overstuffed, but I did find the ending generally satisfying. ( )

Nina was my favorite in this book. Nina forever! Overall I loved the ending and really enjoy the whole Grishaverse. I liked Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom better than this Nikolai/Zoya duology, but it's all good.

My quibble is that there was too much exposition/backstory in this for me (though it's the kind of thing I'd appreciate if I hadn't *just* read King of Scars and watched Shadow & Bone on Netflix). ( )
