Cute and sweet, but falls to pieces if you take even one second to think about the improbability of it all. A blurber on the back cover mentions Pixar, and the story and art do feel like they would translate well into a Disney cartoon short, a nice palate cleanser before the feature begins.
I want to become best friends with a Kodiak bear!

I love that Katya doesn't let fear stop her from helping Kodi, and that Kodi repays that kindness by becoming Katya's friend when she needs one the most.

A beautiful graphic novel.
A fun fantasy for animal lovers. Katya befriends a Kodiak bear in Alaska after freeing it from a fallen log. They are immediate pals but Katya suddenly returns to Seattle. Kodi, who's much more teddy-bear-like than wild animal, stows away on a cruise ship to find and reunite with his friend. The pastel illustrations are so plush it's almost like looking through someone's actual art portfolio.

Katya doesn't really enjoy being around other kids, she prefers to curl up and read comics instead. One day, her Grandma sends her outside to get a snack down the road. One her way back, Katya meets a bear trapped under a fallen tree stump. After helping the bear out, the two become best friends and will stop at nothing to be together.

This is so cute and adorable and I would like a Kodi of my own! I may have even cried a few times when Kodi was searching.

I really enjoyed the watercolors in the artwork. It was different from what I usually read in comics. Jared Cullum was able to capture the expressions of Kodi wonderfully.

This graphic novel is just one of those feel good ones - for both young and old. It's just bound to make you feel show more all warm and cozy inside after you're finished with it. I would highly recommend it! show less
Gr 3–5—An outcast named Katya stumbles upon a bear, Kodi, who is caught in a trap. After Kodi is saved, he
returns the favor to his lonely friend. Dreamy watercolors set the tone in this intimate, touching read about
discovering friendship and belonging in unexpected places.
A fairly quick, watercolor comic about the resilience of friendship. The illustrations are charming even though the story's so simple. Kids will be sure to like this one!

2.5
Charming cartoony watercolor illustrations bring this graphic novel about a Kodiak bear and his human best friend Katya to life. When the pair are separated, Kodi embarks on a journey from Alaska to Seattle to find her. With the help of injured fisherman, Joshua, Katya and Kodi are reunited in the emotional imagery of this graphic novel, written and illustrated by Jared Cullum.
