After Barry dies, his boyfriend Hal is arrested when he is found dancing on Barry's grave. Coming-of-age story about how love can be all-permeating for teenagers and about how its idealized image can make a person blind. Unlike many YA novel, this one is almost exclusively for YA readers - the philosophizing about death and love are much too simplistic for adults. The cinematic format with scenes from different angles and retakes of important moments, however, would interest all readers, regardless of age.
A stirring, realistic portrait of obsessive first love, only this one ends (and the book begins) with the death of one of the boys. Interesting style, told in choppy bits of present tense, memories, adult social worker's reports. Very strong.
The first time I read this book, I was 15 years old and I adored it. For years, I named it as my favourite book. In my memory, it must have taken on epic proportions because the second time I read it, I was very disappointed. Four years had passed and when reading this book again, I couldn't understand what had appealed to me so much. I didn't like the characters at all and thought the main character to be a bit of a whiny bore.
Read it during high school (found it in my high school library, of all places -- actually, my high school library, for some reason, has quite a number of lgbt-related books) and totally loved it. It was painfully sad and beautiful, and I highly recommend it to everyone.
fantastisch boek over 2 jongens die 'niets' met elkaar hebben.

En natuurlijk die prachtige ondertitel
l rabbioso Henry e l'istintivo Barry si incontrano durante un mezzo naufragio. E poi si innamorano. Come solo i ragazzi sanno fare. Non credete al retro di copertina. Non è amicizia. E' vero amore. Solo che Einaudi è troppo puritana per dirlo.
