Long considered the best of the Queen's, it's a case of small clues and large worries. Ellery finds himself forced into the role of detective in a frightened city. ( )

I knew I had read this before, that’s an awful thing to think when you are partway through a mystery novel. I vaguely knew who had done it and why, but I finished the novel anyway. The Queen’s writing style can get a bit descriptive to a point where it seems that this story originally is a short-story. More deaths were added, and a creative trip to Europe were used to stretch it out.
