Another excellent book from David Baldacci, involving CIA intramural battles with the FBI. A winding, easy-to-follow plot with surprise twists. The 1st quarter of the book was slow -- it picks up during the second quarter. Characters in this stand-alone Baldaccci book were mysterious and sympathetic. Some may not like the sexual assault in the middle of the book. I'm not sure that it adds anything to the characters.
This is one of Mr. Baldacci's earlier books, and maybe not his best, but the plot is full of the political intrigue that he's known for today. It features a lobbyist with a heart of gold, FBI agents on the take, and a CIA spook with a God complex. The character that stood out for me is Lee Adams, a divorced private investigator that falls into the middle of this complex struggle for power within our own government agencies. I did learn more about the role of the lobbyist, and that was pretty interesting. The plot was slow at the beginning but picks up at the end. I would rate this one, just okay.
Enjoyable relaxation reading, but not particularly memorable. One scene and its aftermath I found quite troubling for the way in which it seemed to condone or excuse behaviour I considered highly problematic ...
Saving Faith is an excellent standalone thriller by David Baldacci where the CIA are the bad guys and was originally published in 1999. This really is a page turner of a thriller and keeps the reader engaged throughout.
Faith Lockhart is being driven to an FBI safe house in the middle of nowhere as she is considering giving evidence against her mentor Dan Buchanon. The problem was that Buchanon as the most powerful lobbyist in Washington DC knows where all the bodies are buried.
Just as they are about to enter the safe house her FBI escort spots something is wrong and before he can react, he is shot and killed and falls on top of Faith. Her knight in shining armour Lee Adams realise what he was walking in to, lest of all the battle show more against the most powerful man in the capital.
When Robert Thornhill hears that his best laid plans have come unstuck, he is an angry man and as the associate deputy director of the CIA he has the means to find who messed with his plans. He certainly does not want the FBI messing within his kingdom. While saving Faith becomes the cause of a lot of problems for Adams as he tries to keep her alive while she is being hunted as a fugitive by the FBI and CIA. All Adams had done was take a simple job and had not expected to be at the centre of a battle of wills between the two behemoth agencies. Some how he has to keep Faith alive even when she is doing her best to get killed.

Faith Lockhart has been the right hand man for a powerful, successful lobbyist for years but strange things are going on and she thinks it's time to call in help so she goes to the FBI. Before she can even explain the situation, an agent is killed. I'm a huge fan of Baldacci and this is as good or better a story than his others. The characters are enormously interesting and likeable and the plot is wild and credible.
Baldacci is a popular author and I have 6 of his books (thanks to the laundry room book giveaway shelf), but this is the first one I've read. Faith is a government whistle-blower who finds herself on the run with an enigmatic private investigator after an FBI rendezvous goes wrong. They are not sure who they can trust (even each other), and the sense of danger and thrill of the chase keep things moving. How do you stay under the radar in this electronic age (or 1999, when the book was published)? Not bad.
The plot is to terminate one "inconvenient" whistle-blower, Faith Lockhart. The unexpected complication is a burglarizing P.I., Lee Adams who frustrates the assassination and rescues the damsel in distress. Congress is involved,( now we know why they can't pass anything), as well as the CIA and FBI. There were times when the action centered on Lee & Faith or even the FBI agents, that it was riviting. Then it switched to the political big-wigs and it "snailed" out again. There was just way too much discription and past history. I love David Baldacci as a writer and have been vey engrossed in all of the previous books I've read by him but this must have been one of his off days, or weeks...or months.
