Aw, this one is truly a feel-good story! I thought the worldbuilding/lore was very creative. I loved how wholesome Carrot and Garlic were, the witch that cared for them all like children, and the story of how the veggies came to be. Also, veggies selling veggies in a farmers’ market? That’s just fun and slightly dark but that gets explained. I haven’t loved veggies as characters this much since Veggietales.

I feel there are a few messages in this story don’t be afraid; courage isn't the abscence of fear, but persevering through it. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Don’t be a hypocrite, etc, but it’s all woven in seamlessly. It doesn’t come off as an afterschool special, y’know.

I would love to read more about Garlic or show more another book from this author.

Just in case you thought a brave little toaster was the least likely protagonist for a story, here's a cute little yarn with an anxious little bulb of garlic ready to win your heart.

Animated by a witch along with other fruits and vegetables to help in her garden, Garlic is forced to face her fears when it seems a vampire has moved in next door and everyone decides she's the best candidate to confront him since she probably wouldn't be hurt by a garlic-avoiding bloodsucker.

As in real life, her bigger problem may be coming to terms with the existence of celery. Ugh.
This was a very cute, sweet, magical story about anxiety, bravery, community, and friendship told through a very imaginative lens. The art was very warm and lovely. I'm trying not to think too hard about any implications of magical humanoid vegetables growing and selling tiny versions of themselves for human people to consume. Like a planter's peanut situation. Let's just not dwell on that. 😂
Garlic is just one of many vegetable that were given sentient life to help the witch run her garden. All of them are a bit anxious, and Garlic is constantly running late. She has a tendency to bump Celery or their table, and while it is an accident it does not endear Garlic to Celery. One day while in the garden the veggies see smoke coming from the castle in the distance, and they all worry that vampires have come to their town and will destroy everyone. Celery pushes for Garlic to be the one to confront the vampire. After all, she would be the “safest”. Unlike Celery, Garlic is willing to take on the challenge. They are scared, and worried, but they will do anything to make sure everyone else stays safe. I absolutely loved this show more book. It was so much fun. It has the perfect lessons about judging people by their appearance, or by the history of their ancestors. Great read and great illustrations. I want more please. show less

Adorable! I am full of the squee -- little humanoid vegetables gardening and having regular hysterics. So much love. I am astonished at the facial expressions. I love the whole cozy situation, and I am cackling over the cute veggie themed houses. I saw the phrase "anxious bulbs" and it is just perfect.
I love garlic and Garlic!

The Garlic graphic novel series follows Garlic, a garlic bulb created to tend a witch's garden along with other produce created for the same purpose. In the series, Garlic is sent on adventures that she doesn’t feel equipped for. It’s through them that she meets new people, forges new friendships, conquers her fears, overcomes her anxiety, and ultimately becomes her true self. Garlic is warm and it’s cozy. It fully embraces being wholesomely cute and is sure to be a family favorite. The story emotes through each panel and translates well for readers of all ages. Hopefully, you all will enjoy the series for the same reasons that I have. They are brief but impactful, easy to digest, and delicious enough to show more go back for more. I immediately wanted to reread them after my first read and I look forward to more graphic novels by this author. show less
Garlic and the Vampire is a short graphic novel following a cast of animated vegetables, specifically Garlic, as they help Witch Agnes garden. They discover that the castle has a new inhabitant, and Garlic is elected to face the newcomer.

It is such a cute little book! The art style is sweet, and the story is really cute. I really liked the idea it presented of not relying on stereotypes, and allowing people to show you who they are instead. It also shows readers that it is okay to do scary things, and it is okay to do them scared.

It is such a cozy read, and I 10/10 would recommend!
