Dedication
First words
So now they are in print, these letters, telling of five years of torment; and the first name of Kafka's fiancee - the only pointer to which was for a long time the discreet sign 'F.,' matching Kafaks' 'K.,' so that for many years people had no idea what she was called and were kept wondering which of all the possible names it might be, never guessing the right one, for to do so was quite impossible - this name now stands writ large on the cover of the book.
