Description

"The Rectory Magazine was the second of eight children's magazines Carroll edited in his adolescence. It was composed apparently during the last six months of 1845, but the title page reveals that it saw five 'editions' and a number of revisions until it was bound in its present form in 1850, when Carroll was eighteen. Thus, it gives us an indication of his creativity during his most important formative years. The drawings and most of the stories and poems are his own, and they reveal the show more sense of humor and love of words and childhood dreams that soon made him famous."--from "Lewis Carroll and The Rectory Magazine" essay, by Jerome Bump. show less

This is a "magazine" put together by Lewis Carroll, his siblings, and perhaps a few other contributors while Carroll was a child. Some of the material is frankly childish but it shows promise. It is reminiscent of C.. Lewis's Boxen, not as serious as the Brontes' Angria.
