A collection of real-life stories of a hundred inspiring Black women collated by four Black women authors, edited by a Black woman, and illustrated by more than sixty Black female/non-binary illustrators. That’s Black Magic alright!
This book contains some known names and many unknown names from quite a few countries. I was happy to see that range of countries and the diverse fields of achievement included in the content. The format is the same as in the earlier books: a single page write-up about a woman achiever written in story format, accompanied by an illustration of that woman on the right hand side. The language is moderately difficult, and will be manageable for independent readers aged 7 . As far as I could make out, there are show more no repeats from the earlier Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls books except for Kamala Harris. What I also admired was that the book covers not just cis women but also trans women. This makes this edition a treasure trove of inspiring ladies and completely worthy of purchase.
The book proves that you are not limited by when you are born, where you are born, or whom you are born to. Your only limit is set by you yourself.
A few of the illustrations disappointed me this time. They depicted the lady as either fairer or thinner than in real life. Docking 0.25 stars for this.
That’s a very minor issue in comparison with the stunning impact such books can create on little minds and their guardians. Such books are a must for every house, school, and library.

Thank you, NetGalley and Rebel Girls, for the ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

One hundred nights of POSSIBLE dreams!
What a marvelous collection of mini biographies of Black girls who took on the world and made a real difference. These grown girls are from a number of countries and their accomplishments vary from astronomy to pro Hockey to medicine to writing science fiction. Many of them had to overcome more than their skin tone or gender, but they made up their minds and got it done! They are an inspiration to us all! And the illustrations are impressive, too. I plan to buy one for my local library, too.
I requested and received a temporary digital ARC of this book from Rebel Girls via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
I know that this book is clearly written for kids and young adults, but I think it has useful information for anyone who wants to learn. This is really informative. I feel like I really had never heard of the vast majority of these extraordinary women of color discussed in this book. Which is too bad because their achievements are remarkable. This is a great source of inspiration for any girl, of color or otherwise, who has been told that you can’t do anything you set your mInd to. Thank you to Netgally for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
Short biographies of over 60 Black women.
