2388 A History of Finland, by Eino Jutikkala with Kauko Pirinen translated by Paul Sjoblom (read 9 Jun 1991) I found this to be quite a worthwhile read. It is only 250 pages, but I'm not sure any more detail would have held my interest. It is written by Finns, and so maybe it is not too objective--the period after March 15, 1940, is hurriedly and rather superficially covered and I would like to read an objective but more detailed account of those times. Finland just became independent in 1809 but then was under the Czar until 1917. From 1917 to 1940 it was truly independent, but since then it has been overshadowed by Germany or Russia. It would be nice if Russia would give up the parts of Finland it took from Finland in 1944.
