This is the sequel to Freak the Mighty, and while I very much liked the first book, I didn't particularly care for this one.
Max is a very large young man who lives in the basement of the house of his loving grandparents.
When he discovers worm, so named because she loves books, he saves her from bullies, both those her age, and then her older step father who abuses both worm and worm's mother.
Running away with worm to search for her real father, they have many adventures, some believable, others a tad far fetched.
There is a happy ending, but it seems rushed and compact.
Overall, I'm disappointed with this book because it simply cannot measure up to the first.

Good story for ages 12 and up. This is a sequel to Freak the Mighty. Superb YAL writing and quick chapters will keep young adults reading and reading. Solid characterization.
This book is about a boy named Max Kane who doesn't fit in. Max lives with his grandparents, Grim and Gram. After his friend known as Freak died, he forms a friendship with a little girl. He rescues this little girl from abuse. Max and the girl go on the run from the cops and other authority figures.
Sequel to Freak the Mighty. Big dumb Max runs away with 'Worm', an eleven yr old girl who is being abused by her stepfather. They run away to find Worm's real father and many adventures with some nice and some not so nice people. Ends happily
Loved it just as much as Freak the Mighty.
A boy named Max has had problems from the past. Max meets a new friend named Worm. The two venture of to find worms dad.

- My name is Maxwell Kane and the thing you should know about me is this: even though I'm a big dude with a face like the moon and ears that stick out like radar scoops and humongous feet like the abdominal snowman, inside I'm... (show all) a real weenie. A yellow-bellied sapsucker. A gigantic wuss. A coward.
