Description

Juniper After a cult tried to sacrifice me to their wicked God, I went on the run, doing whatever was necessary to survive. Until a demon offered me a deal: give him my soul and he'll help me claim the vengeance I seek. Blood will be spilled, and the monsters I once ran from will soon be running from me. But damning my soul was just the beginning; it's my heart the demon wants next. Zane I've been hunting souls for centuries, but she's the ultimate prize. Vicious and feral, she has a broken show more soul as dark as my own. I thought claiming her would be a simple game, but Juniper is far from simple. I chose to follow her on a path drenched with the blood of her enemies, but it's our blood that may be spilled next. As an ancient God wakes from Its slumber, neither of us may survive. Her Soul for Revenge is book two in the Souls Trilogy but can be listened to as a standalone. It contains sexual scenes including kink/fetish content, horror elements, drug use, scenes of trauma, anxiety, and PTSD. show less

Girl with a truly shitty life falls in with 'right' crowd at school, and her life is irrevocably changed when they betray her (surprise!). Demons, deals, sex parties, and revenge are all on the table. We know the outcome, but holy shit is this a fucking ride!

Overall reco: If you enjoyed Leon And Rae's story and are unsure if you will be able to read a retelling while you know the ending. I will offer this up. It's worth it. You don't know the whole story and there is enough other shit that when down while Rae and Leon were being dumb horror movie kids that this will likely tickle your fancy.

Plot: 5/5
Spice: 5/5
Characters:5/5

but.. I know how it ends..(plot)
Yeah and I didn't start this for the longest time thinking I'd hate it for this show more reason. Honestly, while some stuff got rehashed there was a LOT OF SHIT that went down that Leon and Rae just didn't get involved in. There were things revealed that explained some spots I didn't understand in the first book. The end of Rae's book was difficult to understand (like you don't get a really full picture) about a lot of things and this book made me HUNGRY for Soul of a Witch, because holy shit. I'm realizing just how much went down that Rae and Leon were just fucking oblivious too in their adorable "we are stuck in a horror movie" kind of selves.

DEMONSSSSSS..(spice)
Monsters. Alright?
Okay, to be serious. There are a lot of scenes and a lot of detail, fantastic and glorious detail. This is very much in the pain play and primal play world and their scene's have a lot of pain, some more than others. This is book's scenes are nothing like the first book, Zane is a real masochist. That said, it wasn't trying to make you hate it or vilify it for shock value. I really love Harley Laroux for this kind of writing. Lots of BDSM above basic bondage gets showing in a harsh light and a "this is taboo" kind of way and Harley does not write it that way. It's just part of the scene and we get to see the characters finding out about themselves and finding release in these behaviors. Personally, pain isn't my thing, but reading two people give so hot of that shit was great.

Jupiter/Zane is my favorite.. for now...(characters)
Holy shit I love Juniper.
Juniper is so broken, like really. We get fractions of her story in book one and she really comes across as a badass that is just too badass to ever badass and way too much of an asshole to like. Zane gets the vibe too a bit. I expected to not really like Juniper all that much, or maybe she would be a lot like Rae in that "I'm too stupid to live" kind of way. Juniper is the polar opposite of Rae except in like a few spots where I was really mad that she did dumb stuff while telling herself it was fucking dumb in so many ways. She's edge and hard and broken and honestly, I loved her. And her growth in the book is so beautifully done. I love a broken MC but man, only Harley really seems to feel like she gets it.
Zane is a fantastic MMC. Danger and attitude an a whole lot of "fuck me running" kind a vibe. He's a bad boy's bad boy. I love reading about him, I never want him. But damn I'd watch.

Lube levels..
It was used! Not nearly as much as I think is necessary but at least it was used in the right places and we not just up here raw dogging demons in the butt. (this is not a dig on Harley.. she's my favorite scene writer because she's so damn sex positive)

Juniper has spent years running from the cult that tried to sacrifice her to their god when she was a teenager. But no one can keep running forever and when she's offered a deal to take her revenge, Juniper jumps at the chance.

Zane has spent years waiting for the chance to finally claim Juniper's soul. So he's all for the deal on offer - even if the terms are a little inconvenient and getting more difficult by the second. But the more time they spend together, the more they realise that all the jagged sharp edges they have are the perfect fit with one another.

I really really enjoyed this. Is it perfect? No. But did it hit all the right spots while I was reading it? Yes! Juniper was incredible. Her resilience and her strength and her show more sheer bloodthirstiness was insane. She was broken with lots of jagged edges and it was perfection. I loved her stubbornness and her will to survive. It was brutal and I loved every minute.

Her relationship with Zane was dark and twisted and surprisingly sweet at points. For all they hurt one another physically, mentally they're all about propping one another up and I was all for it. The sex was steamy and while I did have a few issues with some of it - I felt the author adequately addressed the kink and why liking things in the bedroom doesn't equate it with being okay outside of it. I liked that Juniper was like this is okay right now but if he said that to me normally there would be problems. It showed that she valued herself and I liked that.

The world building was interesting and I would've liked to see more of it. It reminded me a lot of the tv show, Supernatural with the Gabriel plotlines. But while the world building was interesting, I felt that it was lacking at points in explaining how things worked with the gods and demons and it would've been a stronger book if this was included. That said, there was a lot of action, a ton of character development and a heavy focus on the relationship between Juniper and Zane so it was very strong in other ways.

I didn't love Leon and Rae's blurb but I'm curious enough now to at least read it and see what I think. And I'm excited to see there will be a third book based around Everly and Callum. I can't wait to read it.

As for this one, it won't be for everyone but if you love a love story between villains with interesting, if somewhat simplistic worldbuilding, then this is for you. 4.5 stars, rounded to 4 stars.

Zane and Juniper are completely unhinged but boy are they fun. I enjoyed this book even more than the first one. Juniper is all grit and she is truly a survivor! She will survive at all costs and leave a bloody trail right behind her. I didn't think I would like anyone more than Leon from the first book but Zane quickly won me over. I like a dry sarcastic smart ass with heart. There was a lot of violence but I didn't mind it. It was a romance with a lot of horror. Blood galore! I can't find much to complain about because I enjoyed the read.
Juniper's life was not easy after her friend tried to sacrifice her to her friend's father's God. She lost her family, her friends, and her sense of self. She found out they killed her baby brother and she and Zane dug up his body but it was a futile attempt to put his body to rest. I liked this book a lot. Juniper ( a name I have always loved) is a rough-and-tumble kind of girl who had to become that girl to survive. When she meets Zane he takes the brunt of it all for her. He helps her see who she is and loves her despite it all. It is a good dark romance book. Demon romance meets pain and anguish. If you have never felt pain or anguish than you may not be a good fit for this book. That is just my opinion though.
Out of my comfort zone, straight to hell...but her hell was so intense and interesting, and her revenge was worth the time to read this one. Looking forward to the last part of this trilogy.
Juniper Kynes and Zane

Review:
I love this addition to the series - just as unique and immersive as the first! A great book on demons, humans, lore, and adventure in a small town.

Quotes:
"Give a human knowledge, and he thinks he's wise. Give a human magic, and he thinks he's strong. Give a human religion, and he'll think he's right."
"Don't you dare call for God," I snarled. "It's my name you're going to be crying."
I LOVED THIS BOOK. So I loved the first one but I actually liked this one better. Zane and Juniper are such an amazing couple. I love them separately and together! This book has a lot more TW's then the first so read the warning!
