The Adventures of Mabel

Fun and light, but quite dated. Though it at least had some progressive views about wolves. It's a very innocent view of the world, but it's quite fun to watch young Mabel succeed in her endeavors.

And yes, I read this because of the name drop in 'Better Call Saul'.

'The Adventures of Mabel' is in the public domain, and I listened to the Librivox audiobook.

Utterly charming, with the fantasy elements firmly anchored. Yes, somewhat old-fashioned, but very readable. BookTalk it as retro? The only issue I have is that Mabel is so very young - if she were 8 or 9 I'd feel more comfortable with her safety and how intrepid she is. And readers under the age 8 or 9 might not enjoy the book as much, either. Heads-up to bits that might bother some readers - there's a fair bit of folk-tale blood-thirstiness, wolves get some bad press, and Mabel's brother gets no respect. Within the context of the story show more those aren't problems, but there you go. show less
