I loved this book for many different reasons! First of all, this is another book that my moms always read to me as a little girl. Personally, I think this is a great book because it teaches children so many things. One, it teaches them where they come from and how they are created. Young children seem to always be curious where they come from, and this book teaches them in a nice and loving way. Second, this books messages confirms and shows to children that they are loved and special in so many ways. This is why I love this book, because it makes children feel special and appreciated greatly. It also shows the bond between a mother and her child, so it teachers about friendship as well. The point of view comes from both the mother and show more the baby cub. For example, on one page it says, "We went to the doctors to hear your heartbeat said momma. But why? asked baby bear, Because god gave us you! said momma." I think it teaches children a lot because they get to hear the perspective from both characters. I highly recommend parents reading this book to children because it teaches them a wonderful lesson! show less
While trying to put Little Cub to bed Mommy bear is asked where he came from. Mommy Bear lovingly explains how Little Cub came about by explaining the Bears pregnancy. Finally, Little Cub is assured he is a gift from God.
I liked the way the book broaches the difficult question of “Where do babies come from?” The clever use of religious beliefs and child like views makes the story easy to understand. My daughter (7 years old) stopped asking questions after I read it to her.
I would like to use the book in my classroom as an introduction into the value of family by having the children draw a picture of their family. A good book for older Sunday school classrooms.

A darling story for children to help assure them of their parent's love, the little polar bear listens as her mother tells her how she was anticipated and delighted over, and sent as a gift from God. A beginning answer to the universal where did I come from question, this gives parents and children an opening to discuss what they believe, while keeping a loving tone and sending the message that they are wanted and loved.
The prose is a little long for a board book format as my daughter was impatient with how long it took to turn the pages, I would have shortened it down a bit. For the regular paper format for older children it would be fine.

Our family really enjoys the whimsical God Gave Us series by Lisa Tawn Bergen. Spiritual concepts are simply explained with comparisons to every day situations. God Gave Us You is the first book in the series, and this board book edition for toddlers is the first time we’ve read it!
Addressing simpler and more concrete subjects than the other God Gave Us books that we have read that deal with topics like heaven, diversity, and love – God Gave Us You answers the always popular question, “Where did I come from?”
This very child-friendly explains how Little Cub’s mother and father were lonely, how they rejoiced when they learned that Little Cub was growing inside of Mama Bear, how her belly grew, how she went to the hospital, and show more how Mama finally met Little Cub in person.
The descriptions are all so sweet and completely age-appropriate for toddlers – there isn’t anything really explicit to be found here. This warm, lovely story is a perfect first introduction to pregnancy and would be a great choice for a child who is expecting a new sibling or wondering how they came to be. As always Laura J. Bryant’a art work is soft, colorful, and charming. You can’t go wrong with this one!

Part of a Christian children's series, this beautifully illustrated little book touches on the topics of birth, love, and family. Although its answer may not satisfy inquiries from older children, it would be a lovely book to use to start to address the question of "Where do babies come from?".
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Delightful and charming. Repetition perfect for small ones to catch the theme and to "read along". The graphics are sweet and fun! I love the big whale and I loved to see how mama's tummy grew. Fabulous gift for any small child. What better gift then to let our little ones how much they are wanted and that they are a gift from God. An optional thought might have been to incorporate some references to Bible Verses that tied in with what was being said. Perhaps in a smaller font along the bottom. Not to be "preachy" but as an additional optional dialog from mommy or daddy to share their little one if led to do so.
