If I would have know this was a season’s series 0, I probably wouldn’t have downloaded it, but it was a freebie on 9.8.23, so no worries. It’s long enough, 45 pages, to be considered a novella. It doesn’t lack in content. Fast paced. I wandered through Alex Paynes’ past, enjoying every minute of it, and would love to read more.
I have some other work by Audrey Walker and will move onto them. I think they are all the first book of a series, and whether I continue or not after that, I cannot say at this time. I have soooo many books I rarely buy anything any more.
I want to thank Audrey for the wonderful puzzles of her book covers she puts in her newsletters. I enjoy them very much.

Review of eBook
When the FBI receives information that Hal Guardino and his organization are buying missiles from China, Director Crow assigns agents Alex Payne and Gina Manzano to the case. Posing as a maid, Gina will infiltrate the crime family while Alex is her outside contact.
Worried about Gina’s safety, Alex does everything possible to protect her, but they barely escape capture in a failed attempt to get information from a safe in the house.
Will they be able to get the information they need to stop the Guardino family? Can Gina remain undercover without the Guardinos discovering her true identity? Will they get the missiles . . . and, if they do, what will they do with them?
=========
This novella, a prequel to the author’s show more “Payne,” provides the backstory for the series of books that follow, enabling readers to understand what events have shaped him into the agent he has become. [There are currently ten books in the series.] Readers of the series will appreciate the insight into the character.
The action-packed story pulls readers into the telling of the tale from the outset while taking a few unexpected turns as the two agents work to take down the crime family. Although the ending is likely to surprise many readers, it does explain much about Agent Payne going forward.

You are an agent with the FBI. Where do you stop before crossing the line? Join Alex Payne and his partner Gina Manzano as they take on the biggest case of their lives. Will they survive to see the end?
This prequel to the Alex Payne Thrillers will keep you on the edge of your seat. There is non-stop tension and action. The author is new to me, and I certainly will be looking forward to more hours of enjoyment coming from her pen.
