Summary: A woman makes a gingerbread cookie and the cookie comes to life. It then runs around while other characters threaten to eat him. It ends with the gingerbread man being tricked.
Personal Reaction: This story is one that I have heard growing up but the whole time I was reading it, I was thinking of the gingerbread man character in Shrek. That put a different take on the story than the one I grew up hearing.
Classroom Extension: The kids would love to sing the song that is repeated throughout the book. Also you could discuss trust and how you know when and when not to trust someone.

SUMMARY: A gingerbread man escapes being ate by all of the animals, but is outsmarted and gobbled all up when he meets the fox!
PERSONAL REACTION: I have always loved this story, and I liked this short and simple version a lot. The illustrations were however, unimpressive.
CLASSROOM EXTENSION: This could be incorporated into a lesson about trust, or talking to strangers. This would also be great to incorporate as a drama.

Summary: An ederly woman bakes a ginger bread cookie for a treat. After he is done baking, he ends up running away from her and others, and no one could catch him. Finally in the end, the wolf tricks the gingerbread man and gets to have him for a snack.

Personal Reaction: I once made a dessert, and before i could enjoy it the rest of my family had eaten all of it, so i feel bad for the old lady. I like the catchy phrase in the story, but didn't like how in the end the bad guy won, because that is never fun.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Bake a gingerbread man and let your students decorate him.
2. For Kindergarten students, bake a gingerbread man in the kitchen at school. When the class goes to get him, he has "disappeared." Take the class around the school, stopping in all the important places, so they can learn where everything is in the school. Finally, when they get to the principals office, they discover he has been hiding in there and get to take him back and enjoy their treat.

1. Summary:
An old woman bakes a gingerbread man only to have him jump out of the pan and run away. He runs away from the old woman, a dog, and a cow, but couldn't run away from the fox who ended up eating him.

2. Personal Experience
I remember reading this book as a little girl, but it had buttons you could push to tell you the story.

3. Classroom Ideas:
I would have the class say with me "Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me. I'm the gingerbread man" every time the gingerbread man says it. Also, I would bring in gingerbread men for the students to decorate.

The Gingerbread Man is about a gingerbread cookie that escapes from the oven. He is so fast that no one can catch him. When he runs into a fox, the fox tricks the Gingerbread man into getting on his back to cross the river. The fox eats him.

I don't really like this book because I don't like the attitude of the Gingerbread Man. He is a sly, mean cookie. However, I think children would really enjoy this book because of the chant that is repeated throughout the book.

As an extension idea, I would bring gingerbread man cookies for the children to decorate. When the kids are not looking, I would make one of the cookies disappear, and make the students think that one escaped. Another good extension would be to set up an obstacle course outside that the children have to run through as fast as they can. Just like the Gingerbread Man had to run away. This would be a good PE activity.
