This book gets pretty deep. A boy witnesses his classmate being bullied and he wants to help but is afraid to do so. He doesn't like what he sees but no one seems to be doing anything about the situation. He becomes brave to talk to the teacher about what his classmate is going through and the teacher helps out.
"Nobody Knew What to Do: A Story About Bullying" is about a little boy named Ray being bullied and how a courageous boy learns how to take a stand to help Ray. The boy watches Ray get bullied every day while the teachers aren't looking. One day, the boy saw and heard enough and decides to speak up for Ray and tell a teacher what has been going on. The teacher and principal help Ray resolve the problem and Ray becomes happier and more social in the end. This book is a very important read for children because it shows how important it is to stop bullying when you see it. This story shows that you don't have to directly confront a bully, but that you can just tell a teacher/principal and that is enough to help. Hopefully this story opens show more up children's eyes to the reality of bullying and some of the different ways to stop it. show less
Nobody Knew What To Do is a very short and quick read but I think it is very effective and touches an an important topic. Throughout the book a young student named Ray is bullied by several students. Others in the class knew that it wasn't right but nobody ever said anything or took action against the bullies. Finally, one young boy decides to go and talk to the teacher about what is taking place. Eventually the teachers and principal witness the bullying and it is put to a stop.
I really like this book because I think many students could relate to the idea of being scared to speak up and tell someone about bullying that they see. However, students shouldn't be afraid to speak up about this type of thing. This book demonstrates that by show more finally talking to an adult, the bullying is put to a stop. Students should also be aware that other students do not need to find out who was the one to give the report. The book also includes a short note about bully prevention at the end, which I find to be useful for both parents and teachers. show less
I enjoyed this short story and believe that it is a great book to read to children if bullying was a problem in a teacher's class. In the story,a young boy named Ray was getting bullied, but a brave young boy decided that the right thing to do was to tell a teacher. After the young boy told the teacher, the bullying stopped. This is a story with a message that is important for children in today's society. Unfortunately, bullying is a problem, and it's even worse when children don't know what to do when they see it occurring. This story shows that when you see that someone is being bullied the best thing to do is tell a teacher. Sometimes children need a short story to open their eyes, and this could be a story that would help a child show more being bullied to come forward, or better yet the bully to come forward. The story was written in first-person, by a character whose name was not given. Being that it was written in first-person we were able to see how great of a kid he was. If this was read to a group of young students, they would find a liking to the character and may be motivated to follow his footsteps. show less
Summary: This story tells how a student finally found the courage to tell a teacher about Ray, who was being picked on and bullied by other kids in school.

Reflection: This book does a good job of pointing out that kids should get help from an adult when they witness someone being bullied. It provides children with an active strategy as well as permission to tell without "tattling." There is a big difference between "telling" and "tattling" and children need to be aware of that.
I thought this book was very good at explaining a situation that involves bullying. Ray was being bullied but no one did anything until Ray didn't show up at school the next day. Then the book shows how the students helped Ray. I loved the pictures in the book, they seemed very realistic without being actual pictures.
When someone is getting bullied, most kids do not know what to do, or they are scared to say something. "Nobody Knew What To Do: A Story About Bulling" by Becky Ray McCain gives insight on what to do when there is a bullying incident. When a student is being bullied, it is important for someone to say something, because bullying is wrong a needs to be stopped. The author does a great job with how she tells the story of becoming worse everyday until the boy being bullied doesn't show up to school one day, and then goes into taking the appropriate steps to helping the child and stopping the bullies. This should encourage students to speak out and tell someone if another student is being bullied. This book may even stop bullying from show more happening. show less
