Sundowners

This book is a sort-of thinking person's Judith Krantz (in the sense that there is quite some well-researched history included in the plot, and my only experience of Krantz to date has been Lily). It has a semi-autobiograhpical feel to it (check out the author's website) and a remarkable sense of what it's like to live in both London, Johannesburg, Singapore, New York (it certainly described much of my impressions in those places). It is, I would argue, firmly within the chick-lit genre, and yes, I picked it up at the airport because I had nothing to read and it was going to be a long flight (and I liked the cover). En underbar bok som jag inte har kunnat lägga ifrån mig. Boken handlar först och främs om vänskap mellan fyra kvinnor som träffas under skoltid och vi får följa det upp till vuxenlivet med allt vad livet innebär, de väljer alla väldigt olika vägar i livet. Det kanske inte låter som någon unik historia men i boken får vi träffa mycket starka och intressanta personer, och tjejernas liv är inte förutsägbar och det är inte boken heler. Den här boken har verkligen allt passion, vänskap, spänning, tragedier och lyx. Jag känner redan saknad över att historien är över för min del.

I love this book, I could read it again and again (and I have!)

My mind wanders back to this book a lot. I think about it more than I thought I would. It really sucked me in to the world of the characters - and made me want to design underwear.
