Description

All twenty-year-old Daisy Haites has ever wanted is a normal life, but as the heiress to London’s most notorious criminal empire, it’s just not in the cards for her.

Raised by her older brother, Julian, after their parents were murdered, Daisy has never been able to escape the watchful gaze of her gang-lord brother. But Julian’s line of work means that Daisy’s life is . . . complicated.
And things don’t become any easier when she falls hard for the beautiful and emotionally show more unavailable Christian Hemmes, who happens to be one of the few men in London who doesn’t answer to Julian.
Christian’s life is no walk in the park either, since he’s in love with his best friend’s girlfriend, Magnolia Parks.
He’s happy enough to use Daisy to throw off the scent of his true affections—until she starts to infiltrate those, too.
As their romance blossoms into something neither was anticipating, Daisy and Christian must come to terms with the fact that in this life everything comes at a price. Relationships intersect and tangle, and Daisy, Christian, and Julian will learn that sometimes life’s most worthwhile pursuits can only be paid in blood.

[4.5] firstly, the amount of time this took me to read had NOTHING to do with how much i enjoyed this (new job kind of took priority) !! like magnolia parks, jessa's writing is SO beautiful and just reads so well in my brain. i'm not sure if i liked the character's AS much as those in book 1 (meaning i think i'm a magnolia and bj girlie, rather than a daisy and christian one) but it's in the same universe, so i still saw plenty of overlap between the two, and will 1000% be continuing!!

I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher (Dutton) for promotional purposes.

I loved Magnolia Parks so naturally I couldn’t wait to read this one. This book was very different from Magnolia Parks, but just as crazy (in a good way).

Magnolia Parks was very Gossip Girl. Daisy Haites was anything but that. Daisy’s brother is a gang lord. So is her ex, Romeo. Her love interest, Christian, is also in that world. There’s murder, attempted murder, art theft, and various scenes of violence. Despite all the crime world antics, the book still kept the lighter tone of the first book. In Daisy’s POV, there are light-hearted footnotes spread throughout which helped keep that tone.

Magnolia and BJ are in this book sparingly; show more Daisy and Christian are the stars of this one. The story spans the same timeline as Magnolia Parks so you get to see Christian’s point of view on some of the events that occurred in the first book. The book does end with a short chapter on Magnolia, giving a little tease into what’s happening with her. I’m very curious to see how her story unfolds.

Like Magnolia Parks, the relationships in this book are very complicated and messy, but incredibly addicting to read. I read the last 200 pages in one day. This series is unlike anything I’ve ever read.

Overall, this book was a worthy successor to Magnolia Parks. Onto the next one!
