How far will Tsunande go? Will she become the fifth hokoge? Or will she aid her old comrade Orochimaru get his arms back?
Okay, it's a freaking false dichotomy, because even the first time I read it I saw through it, but at least her wager with Naruto gave him the impetus to succeed with his new Jutsu as soon as possible.
Tsunande is okay as a character. She's never been my favorite, but she's got pathos and lots of flaws and a nice mean streak that's pretty endearing.
All I can say is that this volume gives us a little conflict where there could easily have been none, and it at least sets us up for the nice little battle that's on its way. The fight of the three Sages. Woot, woot! Let's see the elites battle it out. (But not yet. That's show more coming.) show less

Author/artist Masashi Kishimoto was born in 1974 in rural Okayama Prefecture, Japan. After spending time in art college, he won the Hop Step Award for new manga artists with his manga Karakuri (Mechanism). His first version of Naruto, drawn in 1997, was a one-shot story about fox spirits; his final version, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in show more 1999, quickly became the most popular ninja manga in Japan.
