Description

The Best Mislaid Plans Wizardly schemes, Jorian knew went oft a-gley. But this time the wizard's plan seemed simple. Since ancient prophecy foretold that the clocks would save Iraz, Jorian must repair the great tower clocks that his father had built. If everything went well, Karadur could then plan the rescue of Jorian's beloved wife, Queen Estrildis from Xylar. And Jorian would be appointed Clockmaster of Iraz, a position that would require him to break a pirate siege, placate an amorous show more priestess, and stay at least one step ahead of the Royal Guard of Xylar - where he was still wanted as the star sttraction of a royal beheading show less

Ex-King Jorian gets called upon by his friend and colleague Karador to fulfill the dual prophesies of the Kingdom of Iraz. The first prophecy states that Iraz will be saved by a barbarian. The second, that Iraz will be saved only when the clock starts working again. Fortunately, for our hero, his father was the one who installed the clock in the first place, so he kind of has a head start. As usual, Jorian makes time with the ladies, pines for his lost Estrildis, tells stories and talks a king out of his bathtub.
Ex-king Jorian of Xylar seeks to rescue his wife, Estrildis, and travels to Iraz to repair the massive, broken clockwork towers built by his father, faces political intrigue, a siege, and potential heirship.

To earn funds and influence to rescue his wife, Jorian becomes the city of Iraz's Clockmaster, which is under threat from internal political instability, a Byzantine-style, xenophobic government, and external armies, including the pirates of Algarth and nomadic hordes.

A prophecy foretells that the clocks will save the city, making Jorian's technical work crucial to the city's survival. Jorian continues his adventures with the aid of the wizard Karadur and deals with the hedonistic, obese King Ishbahar of Iraz.
