"Josh and Gemma the second time around" is a continuation of "Josh and Gemma make a baby".
The story is a romantic comedy, but with other elements as well. It starts a few months after we left the couple, and without spoiling anything, reveals the fall from grace and the fight the new happily ever after.
In all fairness, this book wasn't needed. Josh and Gemma's story was perfect as it was, and I feel like this book kind of ruined it. However, I still enjoyed most of it.
The writing was fabulous, as always, and I loved both main characters. There are two things that I want to focus on. The first one being Ian. If you are not a fan of redemption arcs, then I wouldn't recommend this book, because this is exactly that. I saw that a few show more other reviewers commented on it, and I completely agree with them that this book is more Ian's character redemption, than a romantic love story between Josh and Gemma. But!, the difference with me, is that I actually enjoyed it, because I love a good villain.
The second thing that I want to point out, and let my frustrations seen on is MISUNDERSTANDING! Can authors please stop using this trope? I hate it so much. It's infuriating and pointless because if the characters were normal people they would've talked it out. I just find misunderstanding lazy as writing, and definitely remove stars from my books.
And because this was an audiobook, I can't not praise the narrator -Erin Mallon, because once again, she did a wonderful job telling this story.

I relly liked Josh and Gemma Make a Baby and was happy to find out that another book about Josh and Gemma was being published. This second book about the couple was not as good as the first one. I think I would have been happy to leave them where they were in the end of the first book. The audiobook is narrated superbly by Erin Mallon.
This book deals with some heavy subjects like mental health and brain damage. In the beginning Josh and Gemma are getting married and having a baby when something happens that changes the course of their lives. They have to find their way to each other again, being Josh and Gemma, but different.
Josh is my favorite character in these books. I was a little disappointed that he was not as much present in the show more story as I would have thought. This book is in general more about Ian Fortune. We learn his story and motivations. Also as much as Josh and Gemma wanted a baby in the first book, here the baby felt like a prop when Gemma was dealing with her own life. The other familiar characters were just as charming as I remembered from the firs book.
I think that Josh and Gemma do not need any more books. I would not mind reading a book about Ian Fortune, though. show less

I didn’t read the first book and I felt to some extent this therefore meant it took a long time to get on top of the characters and what was happening in the story. As a result I didn’t really enjoy the first half that much but got into the story more in the second half where it was more enjoyable. Although having said that I can’t say that I ever fell in love with the characters, or found myself strongly rooting for them.
There just seemed something missing for me in this book in emotional attachment with the characters. This may have been impacted by the narrator and her style of reading the book, which in this case I felt limited my enjoyment of the book. I read a lot of the books of this style and overall I felt there are show more better books out there in this genre. For me it was an okay book but not really anything more I don’t think I would read the first book following this. If you are planning to read the book I would personally say go straight to the book and avoid the audiobook but it might just be me.

Gemma and Josh's story continues, this side of their story showed us a different side of each character, their HEA is now on the line, they face a situation they never saw coming and now they have to find a way to get back. It was full of emotions, twists, and simply a way to show us that not everything is easy. The audiobook was narrated by Erin Mallon, and it was a wonderful way to experience this story, I stronly recommend you the audio version.
I guess it was cute-ish? Overall, it was mostly just “meh “. I think I preferred the guy she didn’t wind up with to the one she did, even though he wasn’t a romantic interest in this. He was a more interesting and complex character.
