Description

This enemies-to-lovers hockey romance features a suspended defenseman with a temper coming face-to-face with a spitfire that threatens to melt the ice around his heart. I'm the notoriously angry, grouchy D.C. Eagles defenseman who just can't keep his temper in check-a temper that leads to a fifteen-game suspension from the NHL. As if that's not bad enough, I'm forced into a short-term youth-hockey coaching gig-which my manager swears will "rebuild my image." But what I didn't expect was for show more a gorgeous, spunky blonde to stomp onto the ice on day one and lecture me about being rude to her little brother. Something about this spitfire of a woman, and the boy she's so protective of, has my defenses melting. And if I'm not careful, I'll burst into flames, forever melting the ice I've carefully kept around my heart. This is a closed-door romcom with mild language. Trigger warnings include parental substance abuse and dealing with grief/loss of parents. I'm not the hero in this story. I'm the villain. show less

I hoped I would love this book, but I ended up almost DNFing…

I didn’t care for all the innuendo, I don’t know why the characters liked each other (aside from drooling over each other’s physical appearance) or why they both assumed the other one was into them. There was completely unnecessary drama and most of the characters behaved like teenagers.

Which is probably the reason that Betrothal or Breakaway was the only book of the series I really enjoyed, because Ford is the only rational and not completely silly character… Okay this is maybe a bit too harsh, but he’s the only one I would consider a responsible adult.

So despite the heartbreak, pain and grief both (or actually all 3) main characters went through, I didn’t show more really care for them because it felt like I never got to know them. And that aside from them ogling each other they actually never seemed to get to know each other either... The backstory of the characters is supposed to add depth and an emotional connection, but I didn’t really feel it.

Could be worse, but I was too relieved to have gotten through this book to give it more than 3 stars.

High cheesiness level and fairly slow at first. And while I know relatively little about Eastern Conference players, I did feel at times that I was reading rebranded Tom Wilson fanfic.
