This book is a winner of the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award. Annie and Snowball is part of a series of books about a little girl and her pet rabbit, Snowball. In this book, they prepare for her dress up birthday party at her house. I would like to use this book to introduce kids to the series. Then if they see a similar book in the library, they are more likely to choose it. The benefit of a series is that they are able to eventually read through all of the books. This book has several chapters leading up to her dress up birthday party. Even though it doesn't turn out like she planned, the party is still a huge success! This could be a great way to talk about when things don't go like we planned, we can still adjust.
This early chapter book helps the emergent reader get their feet wet - it also can be used to talk about how words can be interpreted incorrectly if they are known. "Dress up" means wearing fancy clothes to Annie, but when Henry hears them he thinks "costume party!" Great for teaching prediction.
This was an all right book. It wasn't great, it wasn't bad. It was just all right. It was amusing to realize that the dress up part was going to be misconstrued. I don't even really know why I feel so ambivalent towards this particular book; I'm sure that others would enjoy it more. But it just didn't capture my imagination or speak to me.
Annie's birthday is on Tuesday and she is very excited for a dressup party! She invites here whole family, including her cousin Henry. Annie, Henry, and even snowball, her bunny, had to pick out what they were going to where at Annies big dress-up party. On the day of her party, the house was dressed up beatiful and so was Annie and her father. However, when her guests arrived they were wearing pirate costumes because they thought it was a costume dress- up party. They had a great time at the party because the most important thing was her family thought Annie.
Come meet Henry’s cousin, Annie, and her pet rabbit, Snowball. When Annie’s birthday is approaching,
she decides to invite Henry and Mudge and his parents to her family birthday party. Annie calls Henry to let him know that everyone is going to dress up. She can’t wait to dress in her best dress and dress up Snowball as well. Read this tale to find out about the funny misunderstanding between Annie and her family.
Genre: Fiction
Age: Primary
Review: This book was about Annie's dress up birthday party. She invited her family (her dad and bunny, aunt, uncle and cousin). When she invited them, she said to dress up. Annie meant to dress fancy, but her counting thought she meant to dress up silly. At the end of the day, everyone still has fun. This is fiction because this story could have actually happened in our world.
Use: This would be a good book for a girl student, or a student with a single parent.
Media: pen and ink and watercolor
Annie's birthday is coming up, and she can't wait to invite Henry and Mudge over for a dress-up party. But when the guests arrive, it's Annie who gets the big surprise!
