Description
Post-baby boomer Generations X and Y make up about a third of the entire working populations, yet all of the business advice books on the market seem to be written by (and for) those in the middle of their careers. In terms of business advice, what is out there for the all-important age 18-34 demographic? Brazen Careerist, a debut book by Penelope Trunk, seeks to answer all the questions that Generations X and Y many have. Trunk gives anything-but-standard business advice that will help new show more generations of workers fly past their in-the-dark coworkers in the effort to get to the top. Her clear, in-your-face style lends itself perfectly to such advice as using office politics to your advantage or admitting to yourself that you need to change fields because you are not good at what you do. Containing 45 tips and one rant, Brazen Careerist asserts that you must have a take-charge attitude and Machiavellian ethics in order to rise to the top of the business world. show lessTags

This book sketches a bold and modern perspective on how to approach jobs and careers. One part on what you want from your career, one on what you would want from a given job, and how to get it.The pages that aren't filled with useful ideas give you enough to grind to brainstorm your own.
The Brazen Careerist's goal is to guide you through what you need to know to succeed in today's workplace. While its recommendations are not necessarily applicable to everybody, I found they helped see career issues from new perspectives.
A useful career guide, especially for those just getting started. The advice is practical and more up-to-date than that in other guides.
