Al J. Venter has been an international WAR correspondent for almost half a century, primarily for Jane's Information Group. He has also produced books and documentary films on a wide array of subjects including, in 1985, a TV documentary on the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (on contract for the CIA). Among his previous books are War Dog: Fighting show more Other People's Wars; Barrel of a Gun: A War Correspondent's Missperrt Moments in Combat as well as a 500-page tome Battle for Angola.
