This is an absolute page-turner! Lucian Rollins is a brooding mogul on a revenge mission, while Sloane Walton is a feisty librarian seeking justice. Despite their mutual hatred, their undeniable chemistry leads to a steamy one-night stand. However, the story takes a twist when their differing views on family threaten their budding romance. Lucian's emotional scars add depth to his character, making his transformation all the more compelling. The witty banter between Sloane and Lucian keeps you hooked, and their love-hate relationship is a rollercoaster of emotions. Plus, the found family element in the book adds a heartwarming touch. Lucy Score's writing is on point, and this enemies-to-lovers tale is an absolute must-read for anyone show more who loves sizzling romance with a side of humor and redemption. Trust me, you won't be able to put it down! show less
Lucian Rollins and Sloane Walton have been circling around each other since they were kids, but tragedy and misunderstanding kept them apart for years. However, with all of the danger that has been surrounding their friends, Lucian and Sloane have been thrown together in multiple situations, causing them to realize that the attraction they have felt for one another may be more, but there are still so many secrets and so much history keeping them from figuring out what everyone else around them already knows.

Things We Left Behind is a very good ending to an enjoyable series taking place in Knockemout. Both protagonists are damaged and dealing with the aftermath of Lucian's abusive childhood. The secrets of the past are slowly revealed in show more flashback chapters throughout the first half of the book. The best parts of the story are the times when Lucian and Sloane let down their guard and enjoy each other. However, there are pacing issues with this book. The long first three quarters of the book frequently repeat the reasons why the two main characters are apart, and the suspense part of the plot only takes place in the last quarter of the narrative. Overall, though, even with these issues, Things We Left Behind is an entertaining finale to this delightful series. show less
[4.5] so close to being a five star read!! the main thing i love about this series is that lucy score doesn’t forget about the other characters from previous books, and they still have such a strong presence in this one, which makes the found family vibe so much better. my only reasoning for it not being five stars is that it did feel like some chapters were dragging a little, but sloane and lucian were worth it!!

I can't stand when it's enemies to lovers but one of them has been knowingly into the other for ever. These two are still hating on each other since high school and they're nearly 40 now.

They end up kicking off this book with the passing of Sloane's father. Lucian loved him too so everyone is pretty wrecked at the beginning. The two face off over him taking care of things and antagonizing each other. She decides that she wants a family and is going to start dating to find the one. He accidentally ends up on a handful of her dates to the visual delight of other restaurant patrons sometimes.

Eventually, things get sexy and dangerous when the story arc from the entire Knockemout series starts to wrap up. This was my favorite of the whole show more series.

Things We Left Behind by Lucy Score
Knockemout series #3. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series as previous couples play roles in this story.
Lucian Rollins and Sloane Walton were neighbors in their teens when his father was violent against his family. To protect Lucian, Sloane calls the police and years later he still hasn’t forgiven her for taking him away from protecting his mother. They have a love hate relationship of bickering which turns from foreplay to a sexual relationship that can’t get enough of. But he is drawing the line on emotions or a future.

Very steamy bordering on erotica, but Lucian refuses to commit to any emotions which turns hurtful and ultimately dangerous for show more Sloane.
I loved the banter and playfulness but not so much his refusal to feel or get past his hurt from his youth. I did admire their determination to right the wrongs of the past.
The couples from all three books interacted quite a bit in the book on the investigation and as friends. Some funny stereotypes in the dialog playing off men and women differences.
A pleasing romance in the end but disliking his attitude through most of the book put me in the same category as Sloane - I didn’t trust him. He does make a good effort in the end.

I received a copy of the from NetGalley and the publisher.

In terms of the whole Knockemout series, this third book slides into a close second place with Knox and Naomi’s story (the first) being my favorite only because I don’t remember the first being so long. I really enjoyed Lucian and Sloane’s story—loved their history and broody, combustible relationship—but the beginning was a little too expository, a little too long. The second half was just what I wanted, totally satisfying in a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers kind of way.

“Something loosened in my chest. Something old and rusted. Like an ancient lock finally forced open. Fresh air swept inside, blowing aside the cobwebs, lighting the hearth. She’s always been mine. I was just now excepting that fact. show more Once some thing was mine, I never gave it up” (531). show less
I wasn’t a fan of Things We Never Got Over and mostly enjoyed Things We Hide From the Light and continued this series solely for Sloane and Lucian’s story. I probably had my standards too high tbh. I enjoyed this for the most part and found myself laughing and smiling a lot (and sometimes even feeling misty-eyed). But after finishing and thinking back on everything, I feel like there were so many contradictions and inconsistencies in both the story and the characters. And I think the reason for that is probably because Lucy Score once again wrote a book that is entirely too long lol

Also I felt like the Sloane and Lucian in this book were portrayed in a completely different way than what we’ve been given in the previous books so show more that was super frustrating. Their backstory and even present story was intriguing but it was dragged out so much. The reasoning for them “hating” each other made sense when they were teenagers but not so much at 40 years old. It honestly just felt like a lazy way to keep the conflict going and boy, did it keep going. For 500 pages.

Also, the way she’s been able to drag out a ridiculous sub plot for 3 books??? Honestly an amazing feat

I will say the smut was pretty good and this is arguably Lucy Score’s best written book in the series (I haven’t read any of her other books). But it still fell flat for me. Justice for Sloane and Lucian
