A quiet memoir told in vignettes from an author with an acerbic wit and no nonsense approach to life. From getting a tattoo to her beloved dogs to being confined at home during the pandemic, her writing invites contemplation.
"Sometimes the DNA of a word answers a question you didn't know to ask."
"There's a lot of life that's interesting to live, but not interesting to write about, let alone read."

these short essays - vignettes, some of them - about her life and thoughts are utterly lovely and charming.
i loved this. she has such a way of looking back (and ahead!) with joy and positivity and every moment of this was wonderful. an absolute delight.

Yes, there is still life at eighty! I really loved this little gem of a memoir by Abigail Thomas. So much wit, spice and positivity although I do share her strong feelings on '45'. I think I would like to grow old like this woman and her dogs. So many snippets of humor and joy. Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Scribner Publishing for a chance to read an ARC version of this delightful, thoughtful memoir. 5 solid stars.

A book recommended by a friend after I told her I was attending an 80th birthday dinner. We're both 75, so we're looking not so far ahead.
The vignettes were interesting, but I did not sense too many commonalities with the author. I had hoped for more. I sensed that she was much older and so different. I think the fact that she wrote this during the pandemic had a big impact.

Memoir told in short vignettes that was very comforting, though I cannot pinpoint why.
