A short simple science fiction story aimed at middle-school readers.
A young girl must overcome her fears of sharks and other predators to become accepted as an adult in her undersea world. Because she lied to get out of a trip "outside" the compound, she is left in charge of the children and must face a monstrous threat all by herself.
Bunting's writing is always clever and interesting, even in this short format. Excellent introduction to science fiction for young readers.
