Not every day one reads a mystery cowritten by a nation's Prime Minister. The tale involves a reporter urged to do a review of 30 year old disappearance of a young woman, still unsolved. He gets a clue through a mysterious phone call but dies when he is hit by a bus near the end of Reykjavik's 200 year aniversary celebration. His siter takes up the story and discovers the solution against the background of the Reagan/Gorbachev summit.

Langsom krimi uden stor dramatik, godt tidsbillede ( )

An excellent atmospheric mystery. In Iceland in 1956 , a young woman , Lara, decides to work as a maid for a well off couple who live on a small isolated island called Vidney. She intends to stay for the entire summer, but goes missing at the beginning of August. Kristjan, a young police officer is called to investigate. He is unable to investigate as he would like to do as the husband of the couple, is a high -ranking lawyer, and Kristjan is called off the job by his superiors . But he continues to keep that case on his mind.

In 1986 , an eager young journalist , Valur, begins to look into the the case again, and makes good progress. The novel takes an unexpected turn and this was a fascinating read for me that I really enjoyed.

Highly recommended. ( )
