Description

"A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis. Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast-again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal show more enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange. Again. Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It's clear from the way he tracks Misery's every movement that he doesn't trust her. If only he knew how right he was.... Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what's hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory...alone with the wolf"-- show less

Me encantó.

I HATED this but I am also NOT the audience for this. I had to read this for my vampire book club and I can't believe I actually finished it. It reads as fanfiction somehow published and bound in paper, with all the Joss Whedon dialogue, obviously-female-written male love interests, and snarky self-insert main characters you could imagine.

Everything, down to the cartoon cover, to the cringey teen-dialogue, to the horrific "alpha" sex scenes were a fever dream made especially for young women with some form of arrested development. Like it has to be. I truly do not understand this. The novel feels like it's a wet-dream for single women in their 20s and 30s who still act 15. There is no other reason to write a character as so juvenile, so show more virginal, and so, so annoying than as some sort of mirror to the readers you are wishing to capture. Is this truly what gets the girls going???

On one hand, I get it: Romance novels work as fantasy for women. Unfortunately, as a woman myself with an almost pathological aversion for dominant men, every scene of these two characters sexually interacting felt like pulling my teeth—and nails—and eyeballs out at once. Maybe if this was about a vampire dominatrix finally finding her little were-slave-boy I could look past the rest, but alas, I got a werewolf locking a vampire's virgin pussy to his knotty wolf-cock to drip cum instead.

I'm gonna kill myself.

Well, damn, that was hot. Very excellent smut, and a totally new take on vampires-werewolves-humans -- I like the world building. I love the snark. Misery is just such a deeply funny person, in constantly terrible circumstances, with a huge heart under guard. It's a fated mate story, so if that's not your bag, steer clear, but I love how it also feels like a realistic falling in love story as well. I mean, realistic in emotional terms. Also, I love the goofy kid Ana, the equally snarky Serena, the kindness that comes from unexpected places, and well, yep, just all of it. Great characters.

I am never one to say "this is a book I would take zero criticism for" but listen I f&%king loved this book. I even did full immersive with listening to the audio while I read along and made annotations and my own personal little comments in my book and I just went full heart and soul into this book.
I had Twilight, Crave, Star-Crossed and even Vampire Academy vibes in here mixed with a whole lot of new.
I have tried to read other books by Ali Hazelwood and DNF'd them but this one, I have to say this should be her forte because I am struggling with words to describe how much I am now obsessed with Misery and Lowe and Ana. It has the cheesiness I love in fluff romance, it has the growling male that has you imagining the wildest things show more 😜🥰. It takes a while for them to get to the spice but oh man, when they get there with the exception of some cringy words it was spice 0 to 100. I'm not even into books (normally) with spice, but Ali, Ms. Ma'am ... ooh wee!!
This is definitely making my top 5 of this year!!!
I base my favorite reads on how books make me feel and this book had me on all kinds of feels.
Fully 5 star rating, hands down.
Note: my reasoning for the comparison is mainly because when I read about Vampires, werewolves and humans those are my go to books.
Trust and believe me this book isn't hyped up enough. My opinion and I will not debate it with anyone!! I had way too much fun reading this.

Okay well I loved it.

For this being my very first Vampire x werewolf fantasy romance read I am so Shocked I enjoyed it so much. Ali has been 50/50 for me lately. I either love it or it’s just ok. But this was surely great! The slow burn was perfect. I really liked Lowe. He was giving “touch her and die” vibes ❤️
4 / 5

this may or may not come as a surprise to you dearest gentle reader… but i did in fact enjoy this book. it’s a vampire / werewolf arranged marriage. it’s the ultimate fanfiction. it’s ALI HAZELWOOD. i knew i had to read it… and i’m glad i did.

to start with its flaws: it’s obviously insane to write something like this. a paranormal smut spectacular? nobody asked for it. but ALI HAZELWOOD did what she had to DO! the world building is (obviously) shoddy and doesn’t always line up, but that’s not why we’re here. y’all know why we’re here.

yes, it edges into furry territory. yes, its plot is wholly unsatisfying. but miss HAZELWOOD didn’t write this one for the PLOT. she wrote this for weird little freaks like show more me, and i’m glad she did.

misery is fine as a main character, if a little annoyingly dense. lowe is. fine i’ll say it. he’s sexy. he’s the alpha (which, yeah, the wolf shit is weird. but once you lean into it…). the side characters are just okay. the ONLY reason this is getting 4 stars is because i was genuinely impressed that this author went from THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS and its ilk to this… insanity.

i don’t know man. i’m simultaneously embarrassed that i enjoyed this and proud to let my lil freak flag fly. ALI HAZELWOOD… i see you, girl. i see you clearly now.

Misery Lark is not only the daughter of a Vampyre leader, but is being given to the Weres for a marriage of convenience to their Alpha, Lowe Moreland. Misery's reasons for agreeing to this arrangement have more to do with the search for her friend, Serena than to develop an alliance with the Weres. However there is more between Misery and Lowe than this uneasy truce, but the lack of trust between their cultures may make it impossible for them to explore their growing relationship.

Bride is filled with political intrigue, interspecies romance, supernatural abilities, and long-kept secrets, making this relatively short paranormal novel a bit hard to follow at times. However, the majority of the book is a fun, escapist ride into an show more alternate world. The characters are likable and relatable. Misery has such a satirical view of the world that comes out mostly through her dialogue, while Lowe is a fairly typical alpha hero. The plot is well developed and includes elements from a cute child, who has suffered tragedy to widespread governmental corruption, leading to a very satisfying conclusion. Overall, Bride is an unexpectedly enjoyable paranormal read from a primarily contemporary romance author. show less
