In More Than Trump, Roderick Edwards offers a brief but compelling exploration of the American political landscape—not through the personality of Donald Trump alone, but through the deeper, often overlooked, principles that shape the Republic itself. Rather than getting caught in the partisan noise, the book aims to peel back the rhetoric and ask:
What do ordinary citizens really believe about America?
And how do those beliefs shape national identity, loyalty, and governance?
This is not another Trump exposé, nor is it a glowing defense. Instead, it’s a cultural and ideological diagnosis of what gave rise to Trump—and what might endure long after him.
The book dives into how everyday Americans view their government—less through show more party politics and more through a lens of disconnection, skepticism, and nostalgia for core Republican ideals. It is ultimately an examination of how far (or close) America remains to its foundational identity. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I requested this audio to understand why people could support a man like Trump for President of the United States. If you didn't know what you saw and heard over the years....a man convicted of rape, a man guilty of stealing money from NY, a man who took high-security documents from the government and then hid them in his bathroom and other places, a man who caused a violent insurrection, a man who says he'd be a dictator for a day, a man who doesn't respect the military or the constitution, a man who wants to execute a three-star general and a man who calls immigrants vermin who will poison the blood of our country, you would think he is just a regular guy from this book. Afterall, he was just a Democrat because he had to be in NY. I show more learned nothing from this book except more excuses for Trump and the kind of man he is. I still can't understand why he has followers. So I do not recommend this book ..... unless you want to hear more excuses for this man's abhorrent and narcissistic behavior. show less
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Book title and author: More Than Trump, Rodrick Edwards. Reviewed 1-16-23
Why I picked this book up: I was again selected for early review and Mr. Rodrick sent me a code to listen online.
Thoughts: This biography book did a good job reviewing who Donald Trump is, how he became popular and what added to his famous name. Some of his conflictual behaviors and policies as president. He covers some history and Joe Biden and how they conflict. While there were a lot of interesting, conflictual, political, back stabbing, realistically justifiable questions about Donal Trump and the positive aspects about what he accomplished as president.
Why I finished this read: I finished because it talked about how the political parties changed and how we show more stand today.
Stars rating: 4.5 of 5 stars I highly recommend buying this short and interesting read. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers."More Than Trump" by Roderick Edwards examines the enduring support for Donald Trump, suggesting that the movement he represents predates and will outlast him. The book delves into the ideological and policy-driven motivations of his followers, linking them to the principles outlined in America's founding documents. Known for his thorough research and straightforward style, Edwards provides a real-time account of Trump's rise and presidency, exploring the deeper meaning of the MAGA phenomenon and its implications for American society.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Thanks to Library Thing for a copy of this book. Unfortunately, it was not my cup of tea. Rather than a serious look at Donald Trump and his issues, I found it to be a puff piece either extolling his perceived virtues or excusing any mistakes he made. I believe history will not treat Trump, nor this book, well.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This was an extremely well-researched book about our REAL history. While I feel the author is definitely a tad biased in favor of Donald Trump, you can't leave reading this without having your eyes opened. This is the history that is not being taught to our younger generation and needs to be.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Regardless of which side of the political aisle you align with, this book is an excellent overview of why Trump is/was so popular, the ideals of American politics, the structure of American government, and the results of presidential elections.
If you vote, read (or listen to) this book. It is not long. It is not complex. You can and should understand what it has to say. Regardless of whether you agree with the author or not, this book contains vital information for your ballot.
Note: I am an independent voter and have never been a Trump supporter. My review is based on the content of the book, not my own political opinions.
