Description

Translated from the Hebrew between the third and first centuries B.C., the Septuagint became the Bible for Greek-speaking Jews and was widely cited by early Christians. Now, at long last, it has been made available in an accurate modern translation for English readers.-

A great new resource for those interested in the Hebrew Bible.

NETS provides a fairly literal translation of the Septuagint based on the best critical editions compiled to date. It is the first significant updated translation of the Septuagint in many years.

The entire Old Testament corpus is present along with the Apocrypha. Each book begins with a nice introduction and features many helpful notes on the text.

A welcome resource for those interested in Old Testament textual criticism and the Greek Old Testament.

Kindle edition: a few mistakes here or there, but the edition I was working with did not render two-column sections well at all. Hope this gets corrected soon.

These comments are not intended to diminish in any way the importance of having a new English translation of the Septuagint, and the enthusiasm with which it should be welcome. Hopefully, the projects that will follow, perhaps a diglot nrsv-nets parallel OT, and the promised series of commentaries on the Greek text, will not leave readers waiting as long as the new translation itself has. All show more those involved in this admirable project are to be congratulated for their contribution to raising Septuagint studies to the level of intensity and interest achieved by its sister fields of the Hebrew OT and the Greek NT. show less
