This is a book that was a favorite of my son's. Sawyer had a donkey as well loved as Harry in this lovely story. The problem was that I could not red the story without crying at the end, which became a source of amusement as my children grew older.
This book did not receive any awards. This book is good for preschoolers and kindergartners because the plot of the story is very relevant to them and it could help them with their stuffed animal friendship. My Friend Harry is about a little boy who gets a stuffed animal elephant named Harry and he brings Harry everywhere. The little boy and the elephant are best friends and they do everything together. When it is the little boy's first day of school he has to leave Harry for the first time and he is very upset about leaving him, but his mom makes sure to tuck Harry into bed. The next day the little boy brings Harry to school to feel more comfortable since he has his best friend with him. This book deals with friendship and a little bit show more of coping with going to school. I would have the preschoolers/ kindergartners bring in their favorite stuffed animal and I would bring mine in too and I would read the book with the children while they have their best bud stuffed animal with them. After the story they can draw themselves with their stuffed animal. show less
This story shows a relationship between a boy and a stuffed elephant and how he loves his stuffed elephant. He realizes that he needs his stuff elephant because it helps him with his feelings.
This is a good read for kids ages 3-5. It teaches them what is appropriate in school. The boy is attached to a stuffy and although he is worried about him being left at home he understands the stuffy doesn't belong in the classroom.
This book is about a boy named James who gets a new stuffed elephant he names Harry. James talks and treats Harry like his best friend for a long time until Harry becomes too thrashed to keep anymore. I chose a bibliotherapy for this book because the fixation to the toy and the behavior demonstrated reminds me of a child who is on the autism spectrum.
