Corvinus is called in to solve a crime and prevent a scandal, when a young woman is found dead the morning after the sacred rite ot the Bona Dea -- a ladies' only ceremony, attended by most of the female part of Rome's upper crust, including the Vestal Virgins. Our hero is in fine fettle, wise cracking his way through an extremely awkward investigation, and the atmosphere of First Century Rome is as ever stunningly recreated. Lacks some of the excitement of the first books in the series, but an enjoyable book.

Once I got used to the anachronistic modern blokey language and stopped bothering trying to remember all the names, this was quite amusing especially Perilla and the flute girls. I might seek out the earlier installments in the series at some point.
Another delightful Marcus Corvinus mystery in which our hero investigates the death of a Vestal Virgin.
