There's something about the way Bonner tells a story that pulls me in and doesn't let go, every time.
The first time I read this was I was 15 or so and I remember not really getting it. Reading again about ten years later, I can say I get it more. I understand what changes Haywood and how Lily herself changes in the two years following Lily. More than anything this is a coming of age story set against a skillfully depicted 1880s Texas background.

Sequel to "Lily"; older brother of Lily's husband takes care of her.
