I thoroughly enjoyed City of the Plague God (book one) and was excited to listen to this book, which is book two. I don't enjoy EVERY Rick Riordan Presents...books, but these are among my favorite. They may be better than Percy Jackson.
Sik travels to London with Daoud, Belet, and Rabisu for Daoud's work. It's supposed to be relaxing. It's supposed to be a lovely trip where they see London. This planned trip is not to be. A very, very old tablet is up for auction, and Belet wants it because her mother had always looked for it. It must be dangerous. The danger is that the tablet can change destiny. Sik finds out how much destiny can change with two phone calls. Now, the story takes off. Sik needs to save the world--AGAIN. Rabisu is the show more comic relief, whom I greatly enjoyed. Belet's destiny changes, leaving Sik without her fighting skills. Daoud disappears after a certain point, but he provides comic relief as well as some heart-breaking moments. What does it take to establish order when chaos is completely unleashed?
I liked this book almost as much as the first one--maybe AS much. I found the Sik was often on his own, and I liked it when they work together. When the evil god decides to get him out of the way, knowing he can't kill Sik (who is immortal), I was freaked out. What he did was terrible for us claustrophobic people! The "lessons" about life at the end at spot on and well written. I found a couple of things a bit unbelievable. I know--considering the crazy things in each book, I shouldn't even say that! Everything pushes one's imagination, but anyway..... I don't want to spoil anything. These books are entertaining, fun, and have wisdom to impart. I like the humor and the adventure. show less

I enjoyed this book. It's a well written story and easy to follow. I believe it's the second in the series so I did struggle to understand part of what was going on.
Full of action and humor. This was also very heartfelt.
