This Alex Cross thriller, featuring multiple contract killers, is a high-octane page-turner that never stops moving. As one politician after another topples, it becomes clear someone is using assassins in a coup attempt to take over the USA. The twist is that after they complete their tasks, someone kills the killers. Alex and Bree join the FBI, CIA, and several other law enforcement agencies in a massive search to uncover those responsible. At the same time, the country goes into lockdown under martial law and faces nuclear threats from enemies around the world. As if that's not enough action, the book ends with a cliffhanger as a new threat enters Alex's life.
Recently have been asking myself why I keep buying and reading James Patterson's new books. They are mind candy and generally nothing more. Well, this one just answered why. It is one of the better Patterson novels in quite awhile. Really solid interesting story, for a change on an Alex Cross novel he isn't on every page and doesn't have his Superman cape on either. This is a real fairly in depth very interesting story with some very interesting characters. While they are not really fully developed they are developed and fleshed out as much a necessary to be more than a card board person slotted for a specific role. The writing is solid and the pace is classic James Patterson. More than anything this reminds me of why years ago I became show more hooked on James Patterson. The story has interesting ebbs and flows and leaves one guessing until the very end as to what is really happening and why. All through the story hints are dropped and a few false clues manage to get the reader trying to guess where the story is going next and who is behind the plot.

If you are a James Patterson fan, especially of his earlier writing and early Alex Cross novels, this is a must read as it is James Patterson at his best doing what he does best; being a great story teller.

Another solid performance by James Patterson in this book featuring Alex Cross. In this novel, the President has just been buried when multiple assassinations take place. Alex has to chase down whomever is killing the most powerful people in the administration, and determine why.
The book has moments of unnecessary gore and violence, to show you how depraved one of the killers is. I don't like those extra graphic murders in any novel.
The book touches on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency and the effect it may have on money movement.
The book also has a subplot about a woman's obsession with sexual domination and submission. I wasn't really sure why this was part of the book, except to show Alex Cross's professional postion with his patients and show more his own vulnerabilities. Plus, it leads to a bit of a cliff hanger at the end of the book.
I do like how Alex's family plays an important role in his life and are always highlighted in the novels.

Assassins, assassins, assassins... The story is full of assassins that have been hired to kill politicians. There is an assassin assassinating an assassin... There are so many characters (government officials) that at times I got lost, but it definitely made me wonder about the line of succession. As all Alex Cross books are, you want to keep reading and see what is going to happen. Thankfully, I waited almost a year to read this book, but it ends on a cliffhanger and I only have to wait about a month now. I would definitely recommend this book. Alex Cross is one of my favorite series.
I was a fan of this series when it began, as well as other series by Patterson. However, I stopped reading him when he started farming out so many of his books to other authors. The quality just was not the same. However, I absolutely loved his collaboration with President Bill Clinton and saw that his latest Alex Cross novel was not written with anyone else so I decided to give it a try. While it did not have the same quality of writing as the one he wrote with Clinton, I did enjoy this tale of multiple assassinations in our government. I might even read the next one, as this one left us hanging.
Target Alex Cross is the twenty-fifth outing in the Alex Cross series and was first published in 2018. This book is getting back to what the Cross series is all about, excitement, suspense and being on a rollercoaster of a ride. This book is an example of what could have happen if the worst-case scenario were to ever happen in America. Fortunately it is written form and had to be executed.

An assassin moves around the snow to the back of a brownstone in Washington DC, he is using a thermal imaging scope and can see the heat of the bodies in the house. When that person is shot twice even her bodyguards do not hear her fall. Later that day the assassin is found murdered in his hotel. His fingerprints are not known in the USA databases, but show more they came up on the Scotland Yard and that is restricted. A CIA agent spot a professional assassin enter the USA at the Washington DC airport. This raises the question about what is about to happen, and the need to be ahead of the curve.

As the American constitution is tested to the core Cross knows that now he has to race to save America and democracy. Does he find the answer, or should he be following the money? Could this really be about the fight for the White House?

It is good to see that the Cross series is back on track.

In the aftermath of the unexpected death of the U.S. President, Alex Cross is tapped by the FBI to help investigate into the professional assassination of GOP California senator, Betsy Walker, in Washington D.C. As the local Chief of Detectives, Alex's wife Bree Stone is also on the case. The first break in the case is when the assassin himself is killed by a fellow professional, who was seen entering the country. The rest of the book is quite a Patterson thrill ride as the country's senior political leadership is targeted in a coordinated way by other top assassins, who subsequently become targets themselves. When the Attorney General assumes the Presidency and declares martial law, there is great anxiety in the country and at home. show more Alex, Bree, the FBI's Ted Mahoney get all the resources they need, especially the FBI's top tech guy and make a number of remarkable breakthroughs as they seek the culprit(s) responsible. Too preposterous for 4 stars. show less
