This trilogy is a different take on the Arthurian legend. There's a fair amount of magical realism, but Pike's theory is that King Arthur did exist, and he was a great warrior. Merlin (by another name) also existed and was an advisor to the king. There are many strong women characters, the names of none will be familiar to you. Aside from the characters' ability to see the future in dreams and talk to wind and water, the series reads more like historical fiction than historical fantasy. She's done her research. It's not Camelot, but it's in the same county as Camelot.
The story continues in book three of the Lost Queen series. I like how this series transports you back in time to a bygone era, to the lives and thoughts of the main characters. While I enjoyed reading this novel, I felt slightly incomplete with the ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

4 stars
Well I thought this was going to wrap up the series but I guess there is at least a book 4 coming out next year! This was a great continuation of the series. A lot of character growth and overall development. I'm excited for the next book!
