Description

"A centuries-long curse is no match for rom-com shenanigans when a medieval knight is brought to life in modern-day Chicago. Forgotten by time and abandoned by hope, Sir Griffin de Beauford's existence stretches out before him. Cursed by a ruthless enchanter to see, hear, and think, but never to move or speak, Griffin suffers the long, lonely centuries trapped in stone...until an unexpected kiss from a fair maiden breathes new life into his soul-and his body. Emily Porter, a recently show more divorced conservator at the Art Institute of Chicago, is charged with the restoration of a statue of a medieval English knight. Breaking curses was not part of the job description. And yet, here he is, the man of her dreams come to life, resplendent in shining armor as he joyously barrels into priceless antiquities...and goes on to dismantle her defenses, wreak havoc on her senses, and tempt her to believe once more in happy-ever-afters. But the modern age tries Griffin's patience and pride, and Emily is a prime suspect in the investigation of the missing sculpture. In a complicated world, can they find their way to a fairytale ending?"-- show less

‘Dreams did come true’

Night at the museum meets every cute Hallmark rom com out there and it’s adorable! Griffin’s body was turned to stone hundreds of years ago by a jealous magician and thought he’d spend eternity watching life go when art restorer Emily and he connect psychically...and then physically when her touch brings him to life again with the help of her friend Rose’s woo woo...and it turns out Griffin might not be the only one out there that needs rescued and there is a whole secret society that specializes in it. Quite fun and the perfect beach read for the upcoming summer!
a solid 4.5 read for me!

i was delightfully surprised by this book. not only had the author clearly done her research about sir griffin's time period which led to fun learning alongside romance romps, but also created a character who has plentiful heart and sincere intentions that make him a delight to read. i surely wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if we hadn't read from his perspective alongside emily's. i felt like i was watching "Elf" for the first time and laughing and smiling along with every beat.

i liked how the ending tied everything with a nice little bow, but part of me (the scifi fantasy part of me) was hungering for a last minute sequel-apparent twist where the cast gets sucked back into the past and emily becomes the fish show more out of water. that's just a guilty pleasure wish, though. will definitely tune in for whatever bryn donovan comes up with next! :) show less
This was adorable! Griffin was the most charming fish out of water and I really like the hints of an underground magical artifact curation ring lol. Rogue archivists and preservationists? Delighted. No notes.

Also, Andy War-Howl is the goodest boy.
Emily is working as an art curator in Chicago after divorcing her cheating ex-husband Tom. She is assigned to a statue encased in stone, when she imagines the statue speaking to her. Later, she dreams of the statue.
The next day, she encounters the statue again, and kisses it, unlocking the knight from his stone encumbrance. Emily is shocked but delighted at the gorgeous knight, Griffin. As she and Griffin fall in love, Emily is accused of stealing the enormous stone statue.
Emily must help Griffin navigate time in the 21st C, 600+ years after his time!
This is a steamy, fun romance.
I really enjoyed my time reading this book. It's an easy to read rom-com with likeable characters and a unique, ridiculous plot. It also has a mystery element except you all ready know what happened, and you get to see everyone else in the story be baffled, trying to figure it out. My only con is that sometimes Griffin said some things that made me cringe, but he's from the 1400s, so it's expected.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, funny, sexy read. Would not recommend if you don't like instant love stories or stories that are more on the explicit side. Overall, an interesting concept and a sweet romance.

It's so GOOFY but if you lean in, it's a good time
I don't really care for romance books, but every now and then I'll find one where the plot sounds interesting, so I'll try it. I really should have just skipped this one. I could tell a few pages in that it was going to annoy me. The writing wasn't that great, and the plot wasn't strong enough to overcome all the things I disliked about it.
